Finally got around to playing with this past weekend’s #YogiSeeYog

⠀ ⠀ Finally got around to playing with this past weekend’s #YogiSeeYogiDo pose that @bethanysmithyoga chose ... a major hip opening #dragonflypose / #grasshopperpose/ #sidelunge #straddle hybrid that was inspired by @fake_taitai. I was 100% sure I wasn’t going to be able to get it but surprised myself - you never know unless you try! Tip: spend some time during your hip opening warm up sitting in a #figure4chairpose - made this pose much more accessible! Also, once your foot makes contact to arm, LEAN forward for a better chance of it staying put! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have you tried this one yet? ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ 💪🏻Day 10 of #StrongFlexyYogi is a POSE for GLUTE FLEXIBILITY.💪🏻 ⠀ ⠀ Our choices today are the kneeling #HorseFacePose as my cohosts have shared or #CowFacePose (which I chose because this seated pose is nicer to my knees). Take any arm variation as we’re isolating the stretch to our piriformis, glutes, outer legs and IT band. In all, bent knees are slightly easier and if you’d like to take it further, straighten leg and actively push through your feet! Range of motion isn’t as important as long as you’re feeling your glute working. 🔥🔥 👉🏻Tabletop 👉🏻Downward Facing Dog 👉🏻Forward Fold These used to KILL me but with consistency and patience I now include them in my regular practice... practice makes progress! 👊🏻 ⠀ Make sure you check out all cohost’s posts to see their options and modifications for our last day of drills. I went with the #CamelPoseVariation because it’s one I conveniently NEVER remember to practice... because it’s always been kind of intimidating! ⁣⁣ Once I get to playing with the pose though, it does get easier and every time I lift back into it I can get higher up and hold it a tad bit longer. Don’t give up if this pose isn’t working for you yet! ⁣⁣⁣ I’m including a video of how I enter this pose, and you can see I move slowly and don’t actually hold the pose long at all! I loved this #lizardlunge variation that I recently saw @suchitra_rx post... but with it being almost Halloween, I threw on a witches hat, grabbed my spooky skeleton cat and have deemed it #YogiSeeYogiBoo! . . This pose wasn’t quite as challenging as it looks (as long as your hips & hammies are nice and warmed up!) so your challenge is to give this pose a little Halloween flair! . . Heels to ground in a Downdog... walking the dog... a twist to each side... top foot gently pushing down the heel of the bottom foot... lots of options for a nice calf stretch here! ⁣ It took me AGES to get my heels down in this pose, so if you’re not there yet be patient with your body! Throw in an alternating #drinkingbirdpose and your calves will hate you now but thank you later! ⁣ Anyone have big plans this weekend? I’ll be dance-momming with my girls which will include hours of downtime in a hotel ballroom while my dancers take master classes. ⁣ ⁣ 💪🏻 Day 4 of #StrongFlexyYogi is our POSE for #QuadFlexibility 💪🏻 ⁣ ⁣ Time to S T R E T C H out those quads! I’ve been meaning to try out this #bhekasana / #shoulderstand hybrid that @helen_garner_yoga did for #yogiseeyogido a few weeks ago and today was the perfect day for it (and apparently my cohost @geeoice_yoga had the same idea 🙌🏻)! Regular #bhekasana pose with both quads stretched at the same time is super intense for me, so I generally prefer to stretch one leg at a time. ⁣ ⁣ 💪🏻 Day 2 of #StrongFlexyYogi is our POSE for #HamstringFlexibility... #ShivaPose OR a #ForwardFold, your choice!! 💪🏻 ⁣ ⁣ I’m going with Shiva Pose because I like the challenge of it! This used to be one of those poses where I'd think "you put what where now?" 😳 When I began to think of it as a variation of reverse tabletop / compass pose hybrid it started making more sense. I feel like this is one of those love it or hate it poses - if you hate it...I'm so sorry! 🙈😂 ⁣⁣ 1- Warm up hips!! Think pigeon pose, lizard, happy baby...and then get those hamstrings happy too too because you’ll need that for the extension! 2- I like to start in seated compass where I tuck shoulder as high as I can under knee and extend leg straight up... 3- Now place hands behind hips as if you were going into reverse tabletop pose... 4- And LIFT! ⁣ ⁣ 💪🏻 Day 1 of #StrongFlexyYogi is our DRILL for #HamstringStrength 💪🏻 ⁣ ⁣ Flexible AND strong hamstrings are key to a happy healthy yoga practice! I joke that my natural hamstring flexibility is my superpower but I’m guilty of not working on the strength side as much as I should! In turn, this drill that my cohosts suggested was NO JOKE! 😳 ⁣⁣ Option 1 Bridge Slides: -Feet in socks or on anything that will slide across the floor. -From your bridge pose, lift toes and slide feet out as far as you can and slide back in to your bridge. -I found my biggest struggle was keeping hips up as I slid back into my bridge, but keeping my hands gripping into the ground seemed to help pull myself up better. -Lots of WTF & hamstring cramps initially with this drill 🤣 but I will say it did get somewhat easier with each try! ⁣⁣⁣ Option 2 -Second option is easier if option 1 is a heck-no. -From your bridge pose, lower hips and step heels away before lifting up again. Happy Sunday! ☀️ I’m playing with shapes again because a) why not b) it’s our weekly Yogi See Yogi Do pose! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @bentley.likethecar chose this week’s shape we’re calling a #PistolCompass (inspired by the lovely @yogakristine). I’m not rocking leg warmers like Bentley, but I AM in Arizona (Tucson) for a few days and was surprised how cool it was this morning! Too many days away from a consistent practice and I sure felt it working on this deep backbend today! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Backbends really don’t come naturally to me and they take lots of extra practice for me to make any progress. BUT - the more I realized that backbends are more of a front body stretch than just trying to bend your back, the easier this became.
