This is the #1 place to hang out in my house, and between my kids & I, lots of actual yoga/dancing/bending/getting upside down happens here! The space just in front of the table is the official “handstand dance floor” while waiting on a pot to boil... and both kids learned their backbend kickovers on the kitchen stairs! ⠀ ⠀ Playing with this weekend’s #YogiSeeYogiDo pose and I’m so happy @livinleggings chose this fun little #headstandknot (inspired by @sylviasyoga) because I somehow rarely play with #headstands anymore. 🤔 This one didn’t need much of a warmup - just a little bit of playing with hand placement for the best balance and optimal face covering (because headstands don’t always make for a pretty #upsidedownface lol). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What are your plans today? ⠀ ⠀ 💪🏻Day 9 of #StrongFlexyYogi is a DRILL for AXIAL EXTENSION.💪🏻 ⠀ ⠀ #AxialExtension = Lengthening the Spine 👉🏻 #SunSalutations offer so many opportunities to practice lengthening the spine, finding more space in between each vertebra as you consciously move between poses. ⠀ 👉🏻 You don’t even need to take the full Sun Salutation to work on axial extension! Some days I just I love moving slow & controlled from #MountainPose to a #ForwardFold and back up. It’s my favorite way to gently start warming up my upper back for deeper backbends and also what I turn to as I’m winding down my practice. ⠀ 👉🏻 Quadruped T-Spine Rotation - I love these drills to isolate the twist to the upper back, increasing #ThoracicSpine mobility with minimal low back involvement. I love to start in a #DancingCamel before going into the full posture with hips pushing forward, tailbone tucked and chest lifting up! 👉🏻 #LittleThunderboltPose ⚡️- I don’t practice this intense pose very often but if I’m really warm, it’s a fun one to try (and it really challenges my quads 🔥)! ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ 💪🏻Day 2 of #StrongFlexyYogi is a POSE for SPINAL FLEXION.💪🏻 ⠀ ⠀ #SpinalFlexion = Forward Bending ⠀ 👉🏻 Spinal Flexion is not just folding at the hip... it’s more about curling to segment each vertebrae, improving mobility. #RabbitPose (and all of its variations 🐇 ) is the perfect pose to show this action! 👉🏻 I like to start from #ChildsPose. Tucking forehead in towards knees, reach hands to heels as you raise hips as high as comfortable, tucking tailbone. Back is rounding and crown of head should lightly touch mat.
