⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Once upon a time this press into #ForearmStand used to be absolutely entirely impossible... then I could do it off blocks... then I could sort of do it without blocks but muscled into it or added a little hop... then I could do it easily but only once a week and when the moons were aligned. Today, I don’t think much about it, because after lots and lots of consistent practice, I just stretch hips/hamstrings/shoulders and do it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Not bragging in the least (!!), but reminding myself that skills I’ve lost in the last year (ahem Pike Press 🙄🙄🙄) can make a comeback if I put in the work all over again. Dancing camels are my favorite way to war

⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Dancing camels are my favorite way to warm up backbends... and doing any camel variation near a wall is my favorite too! ⠀⠀ ⠀ ✨Day 8 of #WellRoundedYogis is #WheelPose / #BridgePose.✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After yesterday’s Lolasana fun, my arms/shoulders/upper back/core are SORE! 😫 I know you all feel my pain too as that was a really hard pose we threw at you... although some of you are ninjas and apparently love lolasana! 😱 Our next pose might be another love-hate one - you either love to backbend or avoid it like the plague! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I used to stay far away from backbends as they were SO hard for me. SO HARD! But I knew they were important if I truly wanted to be a Well Rounded Yogi, so I threw ego aside and started to get serious about getting comfortable with bends. Once I realized that backbends are a major stretch of the FRONT body, things started making more sense. Focusing on stretching my quads/hip flexors/core/chest made a huge difference. Consistently including #PuppyPose #LowLunge & #CamelPose in my practice started opening up my front body and making things click. Practice Practice Practice and don’t forget to Breathe Breathe Breathe! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No matter where you are with your backbends, be patient, be happy with where you are today...and just enjoy the journey! ⠀⠀ ⠀ ✨Day 7 of #WellRoundedYogis is #Lolasana.✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ First off, can I just say that adding this pose to our lineup was not my idea. #OhHelloNatashaAndCoral 👋🏻🤣 But... if we’re trying to be Well Rounded Yogis, we need to include the poses that challenge us. Lolasana & I have a love-hate relationship (with lots of hate-hate days too!) as some days I can lift off and feel like a badass, some days I can’t lift an inch and feel so weak. Or you have days like today where I had height for all of 2 sec then got lower and lower with every next attempt, ending in a puddle of sore abs & shoulders on my mat. 😭 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Swipe to see some drills I like to do with blocks (the more elevation, the easier it is). I’m absolutely no expert with this pose, but I do think about straight arms, shoulders over wrists to get the feet to feel weightless, a rounded cat-back and gluing thighs to chest! From there it’s a few Hail Marys and Good Luck! 🤣 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This pose is HARD and some days are 1000x better than others, so don’t be hard on yourself if this seems impossible today! ⠀⠀ ⠀ ✨Day 6 of #WellRoundedYogis is #DancerPose.✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Balance, breathe, bend so that you feel strong, flexible, peaceful. Or is it wobble, hold breath and slingshot out of this pose?! 🙈 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Dancer Pose used to seem so intimidating but now it’s one of my favorite standing balances to work on! From using props like a strap or the wall to making it simply a great quad stretch, holding with mermaid arms, taking a flip grip or pulling that leg straight up, there are so many lovely variations out there that are accessible to everyone. ❤️ Whichever version you choose, root into your standing foot to stay lifted, relax shoulders away from ears and think about keeping hips squared. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please check in with my lovely cohosts for their variations and tips. ⠀⠀ ⠀ ✨Day 5 of #WellRoundedYogis is a #ForwardFold.✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Forward folds are my FAVORITE poses in my yoga practice. There are lots of variations of forward folds - standing, seated, wide legged, etc - and I attribute all of them to drastically improving my hamstring flexibility, which opened doors to other poses (and handstand pressing!) It’s even helped improve my lower back flexibility! 🙌🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My secret to hamstring superpowers... forward fold every chance you get! Checking emails, sorting socks, painting toenails, pulling weeds... do them in a forward fold! Drop something on the floor? Before you just bend down to pick it up, think long spine vs rounded back: inhale as you reach crown of head upwards to lengthen spine, exhaling as chest reaches forward, then hinge at the hips to fold torso over legs. Feel that hamstring stretch for a moment and THEN you pick up that dropped item! 👌🏻 Please know that it’s taken me consistent practice over several years to get where I am today! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please check in with my lovely cohosts for their variations. I like to call it the Gateway to Pincha as shoulder strength AND flexibility (hamstrings too!) are worked every time you’re in this! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My cohosts have some really good tips on getting into dolphin pose but mayyyyybe some of you want to take it into a forearm stand? Walking your feet in as much as you can (takes happy hamstrings!), you come onto tip toes as you raise a VERY engaged top leg, hips aligning over shoulders and with a push into the forearms and a little pushing off of the bottom foot, you might see that pincha isn’t too far away! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m so excited about how many people have joined us in the challenge! 🥰 It’s been a super long dance competition weekend with my daughters so I have lots & lots to catch up in our gallery tonight! A regular puppy pose on the mat used to be agony, but consistent practice made it feel easier and easier, opening up my shoulders & chest more and more (and even getting into my lower back with the #ExtendedPuppyPose variations). Now it’s a must-have in my practice, especially if I’m warming up for backbends.
