▪️A whole body side-lying to side-plank combo today targeting the waist, but always working from a long, strong & connected Powerhouse 🔥😅🔥 . ▪️I’ve shown two options here; if full side plank is too tricky right now, simply bend underneath leg to reduce the length of the lever until Powerhouse is strong enough to support the whole body ✔️ . ▪️Here are some watchpoints which apply to both versions: . 🔺Set up the frame by ensuring pelvis is square with hip bones level ✔️ . 🔺Collar bone is wide & ribcage connected to form Powerhouse ✔️ . 🔺This ensures the shoulder stabilisers through posterior chain are active to support both the stabilising arm & the active arm ✔️ . 🔺With the leg work, move against your Powerhouse; as the leg lifts, the Powerhouse works harder to maintain a square pelvis ✔️ . 🔺The two way opposing energy of Pilates Opposition then elongates & intensifies the whole ✔️ . 🔺Watch leg alignment, ensuring hip bone ➡️ knee ➡️ 2nd toe remain in line with the correction coming from the hip (glutes) ✔️ . 🔺As always, work your levers only as far as to challenge but not compromise the long, strong & connected Powerhouse ✔️ . 🔺This way the body builds in balance from the inside out, & so our Pilates Journey develops, deepens, & transforms ✔️✔️✔️ . ▪️I hope you enjoy whichever version works for you!! ✔️ . . ▪️Original inspiration from the fabulous @pilates949 ❣️🙏🏻❣️ . ▪️Wearing my fav One Sleeve Crop & Pilates Short in Black from the classically beautiful @contrologyactive 🥰🖤🥰 . ▪️Wishing you a wonderful Friday 😘🙏🏻✝️🐣✝️💋💫

▪️Today I am joining dear friend @amityounger 💫 in one of his recent posts looking at opening up the hip joints & working on the external rotators & adductor connection to the movement of the pelvis & trunk ✔️ . ▪️It is also #toneybandsthursday so I have added these gorgeous arm/leg bracelets to my ankles to increase the load the Powerhouse has to control ✔️ . ▪️As Amit says, this sequence looks ‘easy’; it is not!!! ▪️Beginning my week joining gorgeous @lisakayepilates 💕 & her fabulous Series #passthepilatesball ✨⭕️✨ . ▪️I was tagged by dear friend @jillharrispilates 💓 (3 weeks & counting!!! ✨👯‍♀️✨) to play, & here’s my fav opening, strengthening & lengthening combo with the Over Ball 😍⭕️😍 . ▪️This two part yumminess works the WHOLE body ✔️✔️✔️ . ▪️If we can first find release through the front line, we can access the powerful muscles of the Posterior Chain & thereby work the body with length from a fully connected & posteriorly powered Powerhouse ✔️ . ▪️As a result, although it ‘looks’ like the flow is all about the abs & ‘forward’ muscles, actually the Posterior Chain powers the ‘flexion’ movements from behind ✔️ . ▪️So often I hear that the Classical Pilates Matwork Repertoire has ‘too much flexion’... 🙈🙈🙈 . ▪️I strongly disagree, because if we can first find length through the front line, as demonstrated here, no excessive ‘shortening’ or ‘crunching’ of the spine occurs during flexion, but instead appropriate forward motion which is fully supported by the antagonist muscles underneath, thereby the whole body works in balance whether moving in flexion, extension or rotation ✨☯️✨ . ▪️So with this combo, whether we are working the spine in flexion or extension, BOTH sides of the body are working to control the movements ✔️ . ▪️Again, if all movement is initiated from a connected Powerhouse, we can find our own individual parameters with which to work around our joints ie, we move our levers as far as we can without compromising our long strong & connected centre ✔️✔️✔️ . ▪️This way we work in balance: as our Powerhouse strengthens WITH LENGTH, so our range of movement around a joint increases, & ultimately the balance between mobility & stability transforms the way we move not only on the mat, but off the mat too 🤗🤸🏽‍♀️🤗 . ▪️Wearing super cool yummy new outfit from @ultracoreactive #ultracoreactive #ultracore available at @carbon38 with 20% discount using promo code KATHARINEJEM20 💫 . ▪️I now tag dear friend @amityounger to play #passthepilatesball ~ over to you Amit!! 🤗⭕️🤗 . ▪️Wishing you a wonderful week ahead 😘🙏🏻💛☀️💛

▪️A yummy way to free up the muscles around the pelvis (& therefore lumbar spine), inspired some time ago by gorgeous mover @monenename 🙏🏻♥️ . ▪️After travelling home from an incredible weekend of teaching Pilates Workshops at @pilates_sarpi in beautiful Milan, Italy 🇮🇹 this combo using the Yoga Wheel was exactly what my body needed!! 😋🤸🏽‍♀️😋 . ▪️If a Yoga Wheel is not available or is too challenging, this flow can also be worked using an Over Ball ✔️ . ▪️Here are some tips: . 🔺Working from a long, strong & connected Centre, extend one leg with slight ‘turn out’ of femur in hip, to as far as Powerhouse allows, ie remain fully connected through centre using Pilates Opposition to maintain full spinal length ✔️ . 🔺This provides such a delicious hip flexor stretch as deep abs maintain pelvic neutral with gluts supporting from underneath via posterior chain ✔️ . 🔺Repeat with other leg ✔️ . 🔺Repeat with both legs & on the return, take straight legs back to achieve a hammy stretch; work against your Centre being sure to keep pelvis square & tailbone long ✔️thereby preventing a posterior tilt & missing the stretch 🙈 . 🔺Now circle the legs outwards maintaining a small external rotation in hip & a strong Centre, working at fully mobilising the femur in the hip whilst keeping pelvis & lumbar spine stable ✔️ . 🔺Repeat with the double leg lower once again, folding knees to chest to stretch through back line to end ✔️ . 🔺Remember to move on the exhalation where ribcage is at its most connected ✔️ . ▪️I so hope you enjoy the incredible freedom this combo gives throughout hips & low back; this is pure MOBILITY Vs STABILITY in action, & I love it!!! 🤗🤸🏽‍♀️🤗 . ▪️Wearing divine @contrologyactive 🖤 & Ava Leg Warmers by @toesox @mad_hq 🖤 . ▪️Wishing you a wonderful Tuesday! 😘🙏🏻♥️
