Doing this photo shoot for @barevida was so much fun and let's face

⠀ Doing this photo shoot for @barevida was so much fun and let's face it, any excuse to get a smoothie bowl am I right? 🤤 🙌 If you've been following along with our Insta Stories you might have seen us eating our food with our beautiful bamboo cutlery on the plane back to Australia. 🛩⠀ ⠀ Yep, we're THOSE people... and we're pretty happy about it! 😍⠀ ⠀ Refusing to use plastic cutlery on a plane might seem like such a small change to make but it can make a world of difference. 💜🌴⠀ ⠀ Luckily, there are amazing brands out there like @barevida and changing our world one plastic-free day at a time.⠀ ⠀ Did you know that it has been predicted that (if we don’t change our behaviour), there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish by 2050?! 🐠⠀ ⠀ That's absolutely crazy, but all it takes is making small changes here and there to make sure that doesn't happen. ps. do you also have an obsession with eco-friendly brands? When you travel as much as I do, you naturally start sounding a little bit nutty when you meet strangers. 🙃⠀ ⠀ Simple questions like "where do you live" "where are you from" and "what accent is that 🧐" are usually followed by a long pause while I assess the person standing in front of me. 😬⠀ ⠀ Do they want to hear my life story? Should I keep it simple? 😕I'm Slovak, I learned American English from watching Family Guy on TV while living in Canada, but I also lived in Liverpool and London and occasionally sound British... oh and I've been living in Australia for a few years now. 🤔⠀ ⠀ Not to mention the phrase "I'm going home" could mean back to our Balinese villa we've called home for the past 4 months... it could mean Nick's mum's house in Aus where most of my stuff is... it could mean Canada where my parents are... I mean let's face it, it could mean absolutely anywhere at this point. ⠀ ⠀ Each place I've travelled to has shaped me into being just a little weirder than I was when I arrived. ⠀ ⠀ And I wouldn't have it any other way. ⠀ 💜

Sometimes I just have a feeling that I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be. 🌴⠀ .⠀ We spend so much of our lives questioning if we've made the right decision, picked the right partner, studied the right degree, even just chosen the right meal off the menu. 🤦‍♀️⠀ .⠀ You know that moment when your friend's meal comes to the table and you have instant regret about your own choice. ⠀ .⠀ Meal envy is real and we all have it. ⠀ 🥕😒🌮⠀ .⠀ But every so often, things just fall into place. And when that happens, I almost have an end-of-life-flashback-sequence going through my head. ⠀ .⠀ I think about all the bad relationships, the horrible life decisions, the time I got fired from my dream job, and the time I was on crutches, all alone sleeping on the floor of a French train station with all of my Earthly belongings in one backpack with nowhere to go. 😔⠀ .⠀ It's in that moment when I just know that all of those crazy, life-changing moments happened exactly as they were supposed to. ⠀ .⠀ Because I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be... just staring into this amazing jungle, waiting for Nick to swing out from the trees like Tarzan. 🎋⠀ .⠀ I mean... a girl can dream right? 😝⠀

livingtoroam. If like me you're a sucker for videos featuring golden buzzer moments

If like me you're a sucker for videos featuring golden buzzer moments from America's Got Talent then this post, my emotional friend, is for you. 😭 . The reason these videos get so many views, comments, likes and shares is because they leverage the power of emotional marketing. 😍 . We watch these videos because we’re dying to know what the act is, and why it’s so great to warrant thousands of people talking about it and sharing it. They make us feel curious about the nature of the act, sad due to the performer’s likely turbulent backstory, and happy that they get their chance to shine. 🧐😩🙃🙌 Is it a dog that can bark the exact number of times their owner tells them to? Is it an amazing child ventriloquist? Is it some crazy limber acrobatic Russian duo? 🤔 . I HAVE TO KNOW! 🤩 . Not only that, but these videos also target our self-esteem and sense of belonging by making us watch, share and discuss it with others. 🤳 . And this week I had a chance to write a guest post all about how to bring this kind of magic into the marketing world for the amazing @leadpages blog. In this post, I share 7 tips for creating your own golden buzzer moments by leveraging the power of emotional marketing and getting a better return on the marketing dollars you spend on Facebook ads. 💙 . Confession: I'm definitely both - a person who laughs at how silly people look rushing to the perfect Instagrammable spot AND also a person who will shamelessly elbow bystanders on her way to said Instagrammable spot. 😝🤳⠀ ⠀ This is definitely a spot worth elbowing people over because it truly is paradise. (I promise I apologise right after obviously... I AM Canadian after all 🇨🇦😋)⠀ ⠀ The @kyndcommunity cafe has some of the most wonderful staff, incredible vegan food and just the most amazing and kind people around (and of course, this really freakin' beautiful wall). 💜 They recently also opened up @givecafe here in Canggu which is a 100% plant-based cafe that serves ridiculously delicious food and gives 100% of profits to the people & places that need it the most. 🥑⠀ ⠀ The reason both of these amazing cafes are my paradise is that to me, at its core, being vegan is just about kindness. 🤗⠀ ⠀ Being kind to animals, the planet and my body all at the same time. 🥕⠀ ⠀ And also accepting unbelievable kindness from non-vegan friends who go out of their way to consider my diet when we go out for meals. 🌱⠀ ⠀ So if you're a fellow herbivore - let me know in the comments, and DEFINITELY check out these amazing cafes if you come to Bali! 😍

Tell me if this sounds familiar... You have a great idea, but you don't let yourself get too excited because you want to avoid disappointment in case it doesn't work out. 😑Or even worse, what if you fail so epically that they'll want to talk about it on the 7 o'clock news.😳 But still... it's a good idea, so why not tell a friend or family member... after all, these are your 'people' right? What could possibly go wrong? 🤷‍♀️⠀ ⠀ So you begin the conversation by already underselling yourself by starting with "You'll probably think this is crazy/stupid/unrealistic but..."😕 ⠀ ⠀ They after you tell them what it is, they'll try to sound supportive while simultaneously saying out loud all of the doubts that have been in your head since you first thought of your idea.😔 ⠀ ⠀ I feel like I know this scenario so intimately I could trademark it 'Maggie's Sucky Idea Rejection Moment' (obviously a working title). 🤦‍♀️⠀ ⠀ I was 8 the first time I had this conversation. Growing up in Slovakia, I went to a traditional elementary school. And even at a time when I still wore velcro shoes, I already knew the education I was getting wasn't going to get me anywhere. I wanted to go to a school for the gifted. (Think less X-Men and more just nerdy kids with super thick glasses) 🤓 ⠀ ⠀ The second time I had this conversation was a few years into my nerdy X-Men training program when my family decided to emigrate to Canada. 🇨🇦 ⠀ ⠀ Since then, I can think of a dozen more times in my life where I had that crazy/stupid/unrealistic idea with absolutely no clue as to how I was going to make it work. In fact, our business was one of those crazy ideas. And I had several people try to talk me out of it or make me feel bad about it. ⠀ ⠀ I definitely lost friends along the way. But the friends I made were ones who could embrace completely senseless creativity and support me even when they thought I was absolutely batshit crazy. ⠀ ⠀ And now it's time for me to do the same for you.⠀ ⠀ So let me know in the comments, what's your crazy, life-changing idea and how I can I irrationally support you in your journey? 😝😘💪

🦖We've been travelling for so long now, and still we're amazed every single freakin' time something looks exactly like it does in the photos. 😲 We're always a bit sceptical and think "oh the water can't be THAT turquoise, it must be Photoshopped". 💦 ⠀ ⠀ But then we actually go and see the place we've seen in photographs so many times... and we just stand there in awe. 😯😱😎⠀ ⠀ Because to our delight, this place was EXACTLY as outrageously beautiful as it looks in the photos. 😍⠀ ⠀ Are you like us and use Instagram as your guide to beautiful photo spots when you're travelling? 🤣 And, where's the most Insta-worthy spot you've travelled to? This one definitely makes out Top 5! 💜 Rawr Rawr Rawr 🦖⠀ (our best imitation of T-rex sounds)⠀

Our little place in Ubud is probably one of my favourite Airbnb stays we've ever done, but not for the reasons you might think. 🤔⠀ ⠀ It’s not because the wifi is strong - it isn't. 🤦‍♀️⠀ ⠀ It’s not because the bed is super comfy - it's actually permanently damp. 😑 ⠀ It’s not even because of its incredible serenity - the roosters wake us up at 5am every day. 🤬⠀ ⠀ It's my favourite because of this view. Our window looks out onto nothing but jungle as far as the eye can see. And somehow this view is enough to turn any frown upside down. 🙃⠀ ⠀ Suddenly the lack of wifi is just a great opportunity to read more. 📚⠀ ⠀ Our damp bed gives us an excuse to spend more time exploring instead of lazying around. 🏃‍♀️ ⠀ And our rooster friends have become the alarm clock with no snooze button that we've always wanted. ⏰⠀ ⠀ After all, they say the most productive people in the world get up before the sun does. Maybe they also have rooster neighbours? 🐓😝⠀ ⠀ Every experience is what you make of it, so the next time you're having a hard time in life or business, find that one thing that makes you so ridiculously happy that it makes the rest of your problems fall away. ⠀ ⠀ So now over to you - what's one amazing thing about your daily routine that you can focus on when the rest of it just seems to be going to sh*t? 🤣 ⠀ ⠀ Is it the view from your window? Is it that amazing cup of morning coffee? ☕️Or maybe you have an amazing partner, child or pet? 🐶Let me know in the comments below!⠀ ⠀ 🍃⠀

I was once a synchronised swimmer... Yes, the girls with the gel in their hair and the artificial smile that never goes away even as they are struggling to take a breath - that was me. Unfortunately I seemed to lack the two things that you need in order to be a great synchronised swimmer - athleticism and team mentality. 😟 The only thing I hated more than sports were TEAM sports. 🏃‍♀️ And while in other team sports like soccer you can maybe occasionally just say “screw you guys I’m gonna go over here and do my own thing”... in synchro it’s pretty much impossible. 😕 It’s not that I was a bad team player, it’s just that I didn’t like letting the team down. 💪 So I trained harder than anyone so I could keep up with the other girls even though I really didn’t enjoy the sport and my teammates saw me as the weakest link. 😖 Sounds irrational but it’s a pattern I’ve repeated in nearly every aspect of my life since. I’ve been in jobs that required me to work long hours for minimal pay with colleagues I didn’t like. I’ve had online clients who didn’t appreciate me and continuously pointed out my flaws instead of my achievements. 😔 And just like those jobs, I didn’t stick with synchro because I’m stubborn or I didn’t want to be labelled a quitter. 😒 I stuck with it until we won our competition so I could quit knowing I’d done all that I could to be successful with it. And at that point I still hated it so it was time to cut the cord. 😋 As I’ve grown older I’ve come to understand the importance of letting go of the things that no longer serve you. But I’m incredibly glad I stuck with it because if nothing else, it’s given me the ability to go on amazing underwater adventures like this. 💦 Are you a fellow stubborn over-achiever? Let me know in the comments, we can join forces 😝

Over the last two months here in Bali we've had the privilege of hanging out with one really cool toddler and her even cooler nomadic parents. 😎⠀ ⠀ And this tiny, fearless human got us thinking... as kids, we all start out exactly the same way. ⠀ ⠀ We don't have endless discussions with our friends or parents about how we're maybe thinking about taking up walking or touching a hot stove. 🤔⠀ ⠀ We just do it.⠀ ⠀ Then we fall or get burned and so we know how to do it (or not do it) the next time. ⠀ ⠀ And when we fall, we don't just give up and say "maybe this whole walking thing just isn't for me". 😕⠀ ⠀ We just get right back up and try as many times as it takes until we master doing it on our own. 🏆⠀ ⠀ That fearlessness is something we lose as we grow up. We begin caring about what other people think about the goals we pursue and the tumbles we experience along the way. 🤦‍♀️⠀ ⠀ So we overanalyze, overthink and over-research everything. Often without taking any actual steps towards achieving our goals. ⠀ ⠀ The sad truth is that some of the world's most amazing inventions, cures, tech innovations, and businesses will forever remain in the minds of those who were too afraid to fall. 😣⠀ ⠀ Because even the most incredible ideas without any action behind them will remain just that - ideas. 📚⠀ ⠀ So today I want to encourage you to channel your inner fearless toddler. 🐣⠀ ⠀ Seek out opportunities to fall and learn with each one because the only way to move forward is to stop thinking and planning and just take the first step towards making it happen. 💜⠀ ⠀ And when you fall - just remember to get back up and try again.⠀ ⠀ 🏝⠀ ⠀

livingtoroam. This week I was lucky enough to be able to see Melati and Isabel of @b

This week I was lucky enough to be able to see Melati and Isabel of @byebyeplasticbags speak live. I was fangirling so hard over these two incredible girls who were busy saving the world by the time they were 12 & 10 years old. . They have done presentations for TED Talks and many other stages around the world about how damaging plastic is to the beautiful island of Bali and the urgency of making a change. . Their organisation empowers young people on the island and globally to become change-makers and help create a better, cleaner world for future generations. . I was sitting there in awe listening to them talk about the various initiatives they've created around the island to help reduce and eventually eliminate the use of plastic bags in Bali. . If you've seen the tonnes and tonnes of plastic currently floating in the ocean surrounding this island, you would know how heartbreaking it is. . It was an incredibly humbling experience to be in that audience and I can't thank them enough for everything they're doing to help protect this beautiful island I get to call home even if just for a few short months. . Help to keep the oceans beautiful, #saynotoplastic and make sure to go follow along with the adventures of the absolute rockstars at @byebyeplasticbags. . . . . . . #droneporn #dronephoto #dronepic #droneshot #fromwhereidrone #mavic #djiglobal #djimavicpro #dronefly #dronephotography #droneoftheday #dronelife #mavicpro #drone #dji @djiglobal @mavic_pro #bestvacations #worldtravelbook #travellershouts #theglobewanderer #worldnomads #plasticpositive #tropicaladdicted #vagabondpix #packedforgood #serialtraveler #ocean #beachviews #plasticfree #blue @wanderlustinitiative @tropicaladdicted @vagabondpics @packedforgood @travelanddestinations @theglobewanderer @serial_traveler @schooloftravel @worldnomads @travellershouts @worldtravelbook @bestvacations

I spent the first half of my life living in Slovakia, the other half in Canada. It wasn't really until a few years ago when I became a tour guide in Greece that I could finally understand what Hollywood has been saying to me for years. There is magic in living near big beautiful bodies of water. 🏝 . Working online means you're never really 'offline'. You're always thinking about a new client, a project deadline or an invoice that needs to be sent out. And when you've got a busy mind like mine it can be really difficult to find a way to shut all of that down. 😰🤯 But diving down below the surface of the water makes the world stand still. The silence sets in, and it becomes impossible to think about anything other than controlling your breathing and taking in the blue beauty around you. 🐠🐬🧜 . There is definitely a reason why the people surfing in California or hiking around the beautiful hills of Hawaii always seemed so content in the movies I saw growing up. . The magic of living near the ocean is so incredibly real. Am I right? 💙 . . . . . #blogher #girlvsglobe #dametravel #girlsborntotravel #girlsmeetglobe #girlsvsglobe #globelletravels #femaletravel #femaletravelbloggers #dametraveller #thetravelwomen #bloggergirl #girlsborntotravel #femmetravel #girlslovetravel #ladiesgoneglobal #makeyousmilestyle #howyouglow #prettylittlething #womenempoweringwomen #girlmeetsglobe #sheisnotlost #girlswhotravel #wearetravelgirls #darlingescapes #myunicornlife #oceanlovers #beach #westernaustralia #rottnestisland

“To be successful in business, you must learn to dance with crisis.” 💃⠀ ⠀ This was a lesson we took away from a recent presentation we attended here in Bali. And man oh man, how incredibly true that is.⠀ ⠀ Because the difference between those who succeed and fail often isn’t natural talent, connections in the industry, or some spectacular invention. ⠀ ⠀ It often comes down to just one thing - persistence. 💪⠀ ⠀ Persistence in the face of failure and the criticism we receive from others. ⠀ ⠀ And perhaps the most challenging thing of all is to keep going while being continuously plagued by our own negative self-talk. 😞⠀ ⠀ So if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the past two years it’s that if people don’t try to talk you out of chasing your dreams, then your dreams aren’t big enough. ⠀ ⠀ Dream bigger, hustle harder, fail often and learn from it. ⠀ ⠀ Oh... and screw what anyone else thinks 😝⠀ ⠀ Sending lots of love to anyone who’s feeling a little (or a lot) overwhelmed in their life or business today 😘 ⠀

If you're ever looking to gain a little perspective on just how insignificant some of life's 'big issues' actually are - get a drone. 🤔⠀ ⠀ It's the same feeling I get whenever we get on a plane and you look out the window and all of your problems get smaller and smaller until they disappear altogether as you break through the clouds. ✈️☁️⠀ ⠀ That customer who yelled at you without reason YET AGAIN? Gone. 💆‍♀️⠀ ⠀ Your neighbour's annoying dog that wakes you up every morning at 4am? Nowhere to be seen. 🙅‍♂️⠀ ⠀ That Tinder date that sounded so genuine and turned out not to be Leonardo DiCaprio like his profile suggested? No longer an issue. 🤦‍♀️⠀ ⠀ Every time we fly the drone we get to look at exactly what it sees on our screen and get to have just a little bit of that same incredible feeling. 🙌⠀ ⠀ Do drone photos also make you feel all of the feels, let us know in the comments! 😍

These two images represent my exact thought process at the time I took them. I went from ⠀ ⠀ "Why must this be the last sip of my wine 🍷😭" ⠀ ⠀ to ↓⠀ ⠀ "oh yay, how pretty are my shoes? 👠😍" ⠀ ⠀ Disclaimer: I took these photos after we had gone through multiple wine-tastings so I was perhaps a bit more emotional already - but the sentiment remains nonetheless...⠀ ⠀ I feel like this describes me perfectly as a person. I go from hot to cold in two seconds flat. One minute I feel like Beyoncé would read about my life and slow-clap because it's just that amazing, the next minute I feel like I'm Eminem in the first 20 minutes of 8 Mile. 😑⠀ ⠀ It's something I'm definitely working on, but it's also a trend I've noticed with a lot of other creatives out there. I feel like in order to be creative... you have to be a little bit nuts 🤪, and embrace the fact that some people will never fully 'get you'. 🤷‍♀️⠀ ⠀ What do you think, and can you relate to that kind of constant rollercoaster of emotions? 😀😱🤯😩

If you're a dog owner, you'll know that they're never as innocent as they look 🤣⠀ ⠀ This beautiful pup was the dog at our last housesit in South Australia and boy was he a little troublemaker! But it kind of made us love him more. 💜⠀ ⠀ A big part of the reason we love housesitting is that we both love dogs so much but unfortunately our full-time travel lifestyle doesn't allow us to have one of our own. ⠀ ⠀ Each of the dogs we've looked after have had such unique personalities and have definitely stolen parts of our hearts along the way. ⠀ ⠀ This (not-so) little guy was the best alarm clock, personal trainer, and fur-iend we could have asked for. 🐶⠀ ⠀ Are you a dog person, and if so do you ever catch yourself saying absolutely ridiculous cutesy things to them like I do? 😝⠀
