โ€œHome is the nicest word there is.โ€ - Laura Ingalls Wilder โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” Iโ€™m an absolute homebody, meaning that my purest joy comes from spending time within the comfort of my family and the spaces that I am familiar with. My grandparentsโ€™ cottage on Lake Erie is one of these places, and as my grandparents get older, the memories that we have made here are becoming more important, as we near the sale of the property and the loss of one of our familyโ€™s safety nets. โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” I could go on and on about the significance of this property, and the hard work my grandparents have put into creating a safe space of comfort and leisure for their family. But Iโ€™ll spare you the sappy details, and get to the point.. Iโ€™ve found that these places of โ€˜homeโ€™ serve as a place in both our physical and emotional worlds to which we can return to or think of when we are having a tough time. โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” These comforts of home do not need to be places; perhaps we have a TV show or movie that creates this comfort for us, a specific object, a sent, or even a meal. Find what brings you joy, find where you are your most comfortable, and come back to these things, places, memories in any time of doubt. Youโ€™ve got this, you are worthy, you are supported.

A short Sunday shoutout to all those people in our lives who just โ€˜get usโ€™, from the wise Anne Shirley (who else is obsessed with this series?). โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” Everyday I am put aback by all of the people in my life to whom I can vibe with and really begin to enjoy the moment while around, rather than become anxious about what is to come. These people are family members, old friends, new friends, and plenty of fabulous ladies Iโ€™ve met through platforms like Instagram! โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” I am a firm believer in attracting the energy that you put out into the world. Give and you will receive. Kindred spirits are all around us <3

m o r n i n g r i t u a l ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿšฟ ๐Ÿฅฃ โ˜•๏ธ I am 110% a morning person and take pleasure in the quiet and stillness of a fresh day/start. I am also an incredibly anxious person, therefore establishing productive and balanced morning routines is essential in regards to managing the thousands of thoughts (positive and negative) that rush through my head on an average day. โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” I start most mornings with 10-40 minutes of yoga, the length depends on how I feel and logistically how much time I have. I shower, get ready + organized for the day ahead, and then sit down to enjoy my first meal while listening to a podcast/audiobook, sometimes music. Finally, I get outside. Whether it be a walk around the neighbourhood or to the bus stop for my morning commute. โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” These few simple things are what I have found work for me. I genuinely look forward to each component of this routine, as they make be feel great both in the moment and throughout the rest of the day. โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” Are there routines in YOUR life that bring you joy each and every day? Share these pleasures down below, I would love to know what fuels YOUR fire. โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” Breakfast today was a blend of chia seeds, flaxseeds, hemp hearts, stevia, and cinnamon, soaked overnight in organic yogurt, and topped with blueberries and peanut butter.

Hello and happy Friday! This morning I woke up to 1000 followers, and as there has been an influx of new people here I figured that I would introduce myself to all of you fresh faces with some notes on who I am and the method/ethics behind this account. 1. Iโ€™m Maria, 24 years young, and am currently working on my MA in Art History! 2. In November 2017 (one year ago this week) I had open heart surgery to treat a blood and heart infection, as well as a valve defect. Iโ€™m going to make a post about my recovery next week, but in summary its been a year of relearning my body and finding the beauty in slowing down. 3. I love to exercise and nourish both my physical and mental body in a variety of different ways. 4. In addition to school, I work for a Green Beauty Company, teach an intro to art history course at the university, and nanny part time. 5. And finally my goal with this account is to share how I personally manage to find balance between living a healthy lifestyle, working, school, and finding time for my personal relationships. โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”So, if youโ€™re still reading after that long winded intro.. this account is going to be fully dedicated to a healthy and balanced lifestyle, through my eyes. I encourage you all to share you tips and tricks in the comments, through my dms, etc., I want to know! I am by no means perfect and struggle with a variety of different things on a daily basis, so my aim is to be totally transparent, optimistic, and hopefully provide a space for us all to find comfort and ease within our every day lives. xoxo Maria

Happy November folks! Iโ€™ve celebrated (like I do at the beginning of every month), by journalling some of my goals and intentions for the 30 days ahead. I was a few days late with this, but found some time late last night after finishing an essay on Marxism and Feminism in Art Historical practice (let me know if you want to learn more about the subject!). I want to ask YOU: โ€œwhat are some of your intentions for the month ahead?โ€. Some of mine are to.. - Consume nothing but positive and constructive media (this includes social media, films and television shows, literature, music, etc.) - Take time everyday to give my wholehearted attention to my partner, which is something Iโ€™ve managed to put aside since school begun and life sped up. - Continue practicing yoga every day, because it helps me to feel alive. - Continue to nourish my body with healthy plant foods, because this too helps me to feel my best self. - Really take a step back and think before consuming alcohol by asking myself, โ€œIs this necessary?โ€, โ€œwill this effect your mental health?โ€, โ€œare you reaching for a glass of wine because its the โ€˜thingโ€™ to do, or because you truly believe that it is what your body and mind needs right now, in this moment to thrive and be its best self?โ€. - Attend church every Sunday this month, because I feel incredible while there, and the endorphins are equal to, if not better than what I experience after my favourite kickboxing class. - Focus my attention on the here and now, donโ€™t worry about the past or the future as much as I am acustomed to do. - And finally to prioritize the content that I provide for the world to benefit and help others along their own path to happiness and fulfillment! Feel free to share your intentions in the comments down below, or send me a message even!

Podcast recommendations โ€” what are you listening to that currently fuels your fire? My two favourites of the moment are @theporch and @goop. The Goop Podcast, run by Gwyneth Paltrow and goopโ€™s Chief Content Office Elise Loehnen, is a series of discussions with leading thinkers, culture changes, and industry โ€˜disruptorsโ€™. I listened to their latest podcast with Julia Roberts this morning on my way to school. Paltrow and Roberts spoke about their daily rituals, downtime, kids, male co-stars, and Robertsโ€™ newest show on Amazon Prime. The Porch is weekly worship for young adults in their 20โ€™s and 30โ€™s. The sermons are recorded for their podcast, where they worship God, study His Word, and seek to leave a lasting impact on the world. The sermons, although are aimed to address the Christian faith, I believe are applicable to our lives in more ways than one. Their most recent podcast touched on the quality of our soul, rather than the quality of our appearance. This one was meant specifically for men, but I still learnt a lot about my presence as a person and the impact I make within my daily life. Share your favourites down below! PS. This image is a huge #tbt to 2012. Iโ€™ve recently come across the photos from this shoot with @konopakiphoto and have been feeling nostalgic for that summer, fresh out of high school, with a world of opportunity right in front of me โ™ฅ๏ธ.
