For generations, the people of the Łutsël K’é Dene First Nation have depended on their traditional territory for sustenance. This summer, their vision for a traditional territory became a reality when agreements were signed to establish Thaidene Nëné as a 6.5M acre protected area in Canada's Northwest Territories. #IndigenousPeoplesDay . . Photographer statement: "When you've got 50,000 of your kind pushing from behind you - toward the jaws of death that lurk neck-in-neck in the Mighty Mara River - sometimes you've just got to leap... and have faith. After all, the odds are pretty great!" Incredible 📸 shot, @shanerossphoto!! . . #marariver #nature #wildebeest

A 😱 sight in Amboseli National Park in Kenya. Photographer: “Based on the clear size difference you would expect the Hippo on the right to be the clear winner, however the smaller Hippo made so much noise that the larger one eventually gave up and walked away!” . . Amazing 📸, @alilyquistwildlife!
Did you know that sea lions hunt at night... expending a great deal of energy to catch fish? At sunrise, they return to the shore to haul out, rest, and prepare for the next hunt. Nature’s power: Growing precariously on a narrow canyon ledge, a lone pine tree grows to heights that is solely under the control of nature. While it may appear that the colours of the rock have been artificially painted, they are in fact in their raw unadulterated state, and made as a result of volcanic activity in the rock bed eons ago. . 📸: Gabor Dosa . #pinetree #canada #nature
Think about this for a moment. Feelings of camaraderie, days where you feel accomplished, and moments when you’re able to focus on... you. . For girls at Lagosa Secondary School in Tanzania, a new dorm means no more treacherous trips to school, a lot more time to focus on their studies, hot meals twice a day, and a safe place to learn with peers. Everywhere, the chance the strive and be educated is a gift. In Tanzania and with help from our partners, it’s also a chance to become change makers for health and conservation. Check out our link in bio (and our Back To School story highlight!) to see how it’s working and how you can help send girls back to school. 🙌🏽🙌🏻🙌🏼🙌🏾🙌🙌🏿 . Big props to our team in @nature_africa for supporting this incredibly important effort. Lastly, we present our grand prize winner: Tyler Schiffman from The USA! His stunningly peaceful shot of this California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) framed by kelp beds reminds us of what we all love about nature: it’s a truly diverse world outside of our own. Says Tyler, “I was diving the break wall in Monterey Bay and this week in particular had over 40 foot vis for 3 days straight. I had been shooting kelp bursts all day as the light was exploding amongst the canopy above. I had framed this shot waiting for a sea lion to swim by. After 5 minutes, one swam up and paused for a few seconds, I took 3 photos and as rare as it was the moment left in a blink of an eye." . Well deserved, @tyschiff! Thank you for sharing this special moment with the world. Swipe right to see his full reaction! 😄 . . PS: It doesn’t end here!
