Aside from good chats with new faces, planning fun day trips, teaching an evening yoga class in a dome in the Spanish mountains and eating copious amounts of delicious veggie food in between, I will be right here cuddled up by a fire spending Easter Sunday my new furry little friend Richie. Expect very little movement on your mat, but some deep stretching and long holds to get into those tight areas. We'll move slowly and intuitively into various lying-down poses, and your body will thank you for each long release. You'll receive gentle guidance as we explore energy, chakras, elements, emotions, breathing and meditation. This will be a sensory and an immersive experience, where you'll be bathed in sounds from beautiful instruments such as bowls, chimes, rain sticks, monochord and voice and surrounded by lovely smells and gentle lighting. ‘It's my intention to help you relax, reset and reconnect in a beautiful safe space. I was on a treadmill yesterday. (Rare occurrence, but hey I see a Spain retreat on the horizon...) For a second I turned my gaze to look at the person next to me’s speed. I was comparing. In that second, I noticed my energy levels visibly decrease. How much slower or faster she was going was irrelevant. It got me thinking about how much energy we all waste looking left and right at other people we feel we’re ‘competing’ with in life, when all of that energy we could be putting into winning our own race, playing our own game. No one’s path or destination is the same. If we’re going to compare, we may as well compare ourselves to the people we were a year ago; how far we’ve come since then, and how much we’ve grown. Best to save our energy looking forward to our own path, run at our own pace, or better yet; make it a gentle stroll! And maybe stop for a casual half moon while you’re there.

HIP OPENERS. Why do most people lovvvvve a hip opening class? There’s a divine sense of release that comes from stretching out and opening the hips... So many of us are tight here! Perhaps due to the way our physical body is built, perhaps not doing enough to keep ourselves mobile, perhaps because energetically the hips are linked with control and holding on to life too tight. Lots of us do it. Try to control situations, experiences, people, the way we want things to go... Often without realising. If we relax a little and go with the flow, perhaps we can find more harmony and openness all round = happy hips, happy heart. 💜

RELAX. We know instinctively that taking time to relax and restore is massively beneficial in so many ways! So why do we find it so hard to do, and don’t consider it a worthy enough bullet point on the ‘to do’ list? Outside of work, despite most of us leading busy lives that require that balance of down time, we’ll still generally opt for ‘harder’ forms of exercise to challenge our physical body over more gentle classes that require less physical exertion but allow for the mind to calm and settle. Is the mind not just as important, if not more so? Relaxing helps to boost our energy, aid our sleeping patterns, increase our focus and self-awareness and reset our internal systems so that we have the stamina to keep moving through life as our best selves! Two years ago today, I was on a date where I was failing miserably at bowling to a dark and mysterious yoga teacher with a broken foot. (I blame the g&t.) Two years on and I’m about to walk out my front door to meet the same man (less mysterious) for more g&t and a non-competitive date of dinner and theatre (my choice, obvs). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And four months from today that wonderful man will become my husband! Then I have to remind myself of a great tip I learnt a while back on a biz course... If you’re hit with the overwhelm, try not focus on the never-ending list but just do the ONE NEXT BEST THING you can in the moment. Be present with that task, and then move onto the next best thing. Anyone else a big Will Smith fan?! Love what he says about this- ‘You don't set out to build a wall. You don't say 'I'm going to build the biggest, baddest, greatest wall that's ever been built.' You don't start there. You say, 'I'm going to lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid.’ And one day... Bam, you look up and see you’ve built a big badass wall! But one brick at a time. Or do you chase the moment the hard bit is over? Is it even about the pose, or is it about what happens beneath the surface...? As the practice continues, yoga becomes less a physical fitness class and more a journey of getting to know who you are 🙏🏻
