Can you believe it ? . I’m 7 months Post ACL Surgery. Time has seriously flown by, I remember laying on the couch in Rhode Island with my leg up, thinking I would never be the same again. The mental game of this journey has def. been the hardest, learning to workout around your injury, get creative, and take it as a moment to better yourself instead of a moment of defeat. . . I’m so happy I can inspire so many of you who are going through the same. I may not post about it much anymore but even now I go to physical therapy 3x a week, I’m constantly rehabbing it, I wake up and get out of bed with a slight swag walk to start my day , and it’s a constant process . . But it has 100 percent changed my life. Making me appreciate my body more, making me tough mentally, and fearlessly determined to never take any second for granted. I’m lazer focused on my goals and one of them is to hit that buzzer in May. . . In the Warrior Strong Method your workouts are customized towards you, so if you have an injury we can work around it. ACL Rehab - Knee Pain ——- Knee pain in ACL rehab can occur for many different reasons. One big reason pain occurs is improper stress management. This is why I believe in individualized treatments and not blindly following a protocol. I never want my patients to be in constant pain so if you do have pain with rehab, I would make sure to speak up. I also believe an important part of ACL rehab is exercise modification and figuring out ways to challenge the muscles without stressing the joint. ——- Here is an example of exercise modification for patients with ACL knee pain. I try to still get work in without causing irritation to the knee. This modified skater squat takes pressure off the knee as there is no anterior translation. The top band allows her reduce the weight of her body on her knee as well. Having a large exercise bank is important for exercise modification. ACL TEAR EXERCISES – (Tag a friend with a past or current ACL tear) -- The ACL is a ligament that attaches from the tibia to the femur. The ACL provides stability to the knee in different directions. -- After an ACL tear, there is usually pain, swelling, decreased range of motion and weakness of the knee. Therefore, the goals are to reduce pain, decrease swelling, improve range of motion, and increase strength. -- The exercises in this post will accomplish all of those things with proper implementation. Staying consistent and motivated will be key to a successful recovery! -- Videos 1 and 2 - Improve knee extension mobility and quadriceps strength -- Videos 3 and 4 - Improve knee extension -- Videos 5 and 6 - Improves knee flexion and hamstring strength -- Videos 7, 8 - Improve quadriceps strength -- Video 9 - Improve hip strength -- These exercises are started in the initial phases of rehab after an ACL tear or after an ACL surgery. Gradually, the difficulty of the exercises can be increased. Also, try push the knee too hard to avoid over-stressing the ACL. Your rehab professional will help you with knowing how much to push the knee. -- DISCLAIMER – If you had a recent ACL surgery, then you should follow your post-op guidelines. Your surgeon and physical therapist will help you find the right exercises. Exercise selection will depend on what your specific protocol. Quad Strain Rehab ——- When addressing a muscle strain, gradually increasing the dosage to the muscle is the key. The muscle needs to “rebuild” and regain its ability to handle load. I want to challenge the muscle in as many ways as possible to ensure it can handle all the demands of sports. In regards to the quad, hip extension with knee flexion under load is one of the more challenging positions. Many people restrain a quad when trying to kick a ball so increasing the tolerance in that position is very important for full recovery. ——- Here are a few exercises I use in mid to late stages of rehab. 1️⃣ Split Squat Hold - working in long holds builds muscle endurance and really challenges the muscle. This is also challenging as a strained muscle typically will feel pain when contracted and on stretch like in this position. 2️⃣ Med ball Lunge Drops - challenging the quads ability to accept load and the med ball adds an additional challenge to stability. 3️⃣ Skater to high knee - a high level quad exercise as she has to control her body down and then transition into a jump. 4️⃣ Alternating jump lunges - again challenging the quad to accept load and transition into a jump. ——- 🙌🏼 Tag someone who would like these exercises! 👍 Like and save if you found it helpful! 🤷🏼‍♂️ Post questions or comments below!👇

Today’s mobility exercise is basically an elevated side lunge. 🔻This exercise is very basic and will help open up tight hips. It’s a simple side step and lean with a inward twist of the thigh and knee at the top. 🔻Do about 10-15 side lunges on each side. Graduation Day! ——- Hard work pays off and it’s proven at the end of rehab. ACL rehab is one of the hardest physical and mental challenges a person can go through. This injury takes a lot of perseverance and I appreciate you being patient with the entire process. You always came in ready to work hard and rarely (oh you know you did sometimes) complained. We’ve known each other for quite some time now and it will definitely be weird not having you come in anymore. I hope that you continue to keep yourself strong after all this work you put in! ACL Rehab - Quads ——- Let’s just keep this ACL content going. I’ve already spoken at lengths about the importance of progressive loading in ACL rehab. Frankly, it’s a MUST. While there are several reasons why ACL re-tear rates are so high (many I believe are fixable), one primary reason is patients aren’t strong enough when they go back. One of the primary indicators as reported by research is having at least 90% quad strength in the surgical knee compared to the non-surgical. ——- Challenging the quads in numerous ways allows for the quad to get stronger and get used to handle the different demands of sports. Here are two higher level quad exercises I like to use in the later stages of rehab. 1️⃣ Rear foot elevated split squats - posting about this again!? It’s a surgiversary! Knee surgery 9 was today 12 years ago. #ACL number 3 lasted 6 short weeks. I can see how the Staph infection happened now. A poorly approximated incision closed with vicryl which led to a popped stitch and the opportunity for a staph infection around 10-14 days out, it sat for a month. It never really looked infected, just swelling and a few random spots. It was a PT who insisted on bloodwork after poor care/communication from surgeons office. This experience was traumatizing and colored how I felt about orthopedic medicine for years. I’d go through self medicating with alcohol, pilfered pills and pot before finding my current surgeon. Single Leg Stability ——————————————— Single leg balance or stability work is important in physical therapy/rehab as well as pre-work in strength and conditioning. Throwing a ball against a wall can get boring and not challenge the body in 360 degrees. ——————————————— Some options I like to incorporate are: ——————————————— Single Leg Ball Toss to a Wall on a Pliable Surface 3 Position Single Leg Deadlift (SLDL) Wall Ball Taps Split Stance Scoop Toss ——————————————— The pliable surface increases the difficulty of the movement as well as throwing a med ball that has some weight to it forces the athlete to have to stabilize vs throwing a much lighter ball. ——————————————— The 3 Position SLDL Wall Ball Taps is a great movement to challenge an athlete in multiple positions of hip flexion. Like mentioned before, using a medicine ball forces the athlete to have to stabilize when catching the ball when it bounces back to them. ——————————————— The Split Stance Scoop Toss is another great option to help train lower body stability. The athlete has to control throwing the ball to the wall and then control their body when catching the ball as well. Me mola inventar o modificar ejercicios con fin de hacerlos mas productivos y mas divertidos. Que la persona tenga que dedicar mucha atención sobretodo cuando se trata de ejercicios preventivos. En el video muestro una buena opción para mejorar el control motor a la vez que la propiocepción de de la rodilla, Isquios más concretamente. La lesion o ruptura del ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA) provoca un cajon anterior de la tibia, es decir, la tibia tiene tendencia a desviarse hacia anterior respecto el femur por la falta de tensión hacia posterior, que en caso de lesión, se verá alterada, deficitaria o nula por parte del ligamento. Como la ciencia dice, los ligamentos estan llenos de celulas que nos mandan señales al cerebro de las posiciones concretas de nuestras articulaciones (propiocepcion). La tracción hacia posterior de la tibia respecto el femur tambien es generada por los musculos isquiotibiales, por este motivo la importancia de un trabajo elaborado de isquiotibiales para la buena recuperación. No obstante, estos músculos tienen otras fuciones mas importantes como la flexión de rodilla o la extensión de cadera. Movimientos de mayor amplitud.
