Dinner tonight was SUPER simple and quick. . . Whipped up a quick tomato salad that tasted like bruschetta. Tomatoes, basil, thinly sliced shallots, red wine vinegar, avocado oil, s+p. . . Pasta was also super simple, the sauce is just marscapone, some deserved pasta water, finely grated Parmesan, and s+p. Sautéed up some garlic and then put the pasta cooked broccoli and sauce in the pan and cooked until the sauce thickened up. . . We’re still using the @marleyspoon delivery and absolutely loving it! What does this mean? It means that your training intensity shouldn’t change, just because your physique goals do. . . If you lifted heavy to gain muscle, then that same approach should be applied while cutting and decreasing body fat.. . To decrease body fat and lose, we know that calories must decrease, no matter how heavy you lift. By default, your energy consumption will not be as high and strength will be affected. During periods of reduced caloric intake, the body must compensate for this lack of energy. When you lessen your loads and intensity while doing this, and don’t push to still lift heavy, you give your nervous system a message that you don’t need to keep some of the muscle that you built while gaining, especially since you aren’t using it while cutting. . . While cutting, it’s very possible you will lose some muscle because of the calorie decrease and the drop off in loads. That’s common. But the goal is to minimize this to the least degree. Don’t maximize it by eliminating the intensity and lifting heavy approach while cutting. Lifting heavy ensures that your body realizes that the muscle that is there, is important! PS-HEAVY LIFTING BY ITSELF DOES NOT MAKE YOU BULKY.

Late night gym session in store. Even during your busiest days, remember to take time for yourself. It’s more important than you think. This Wednesday consisted of; SQUATS, BENCH, SINGLE ARM ROW, NORDIC HAM CURLS, and of course HIP THRUSTS. Started a new program as well, this week is relatively easy and as each week progresses the lifts and rep ranges/weight will become more difficult. 😆💪🏽

Many say that they are bad for health because they cause insulin levels to spike, creating that feeling of "food coma". However, when consumed properly and in moderation, they can be damn useful! If you only had 45 minutes before a workout to grab a meal, simple carbs can provide you with an immediate source of energy to power your exercise. Gotta train optimally lah! Simple carbs can also help with recovery. If you just finished a workout and you expect to engage in other hard physical activity within the next 12 hours (maybe another workout or erm... y'know), simple carbs can help replenish the lost blood sugar and glycogen faster than eating complex carbs (i.e. brown rice). In summary, if you're a highly active individual, regardless of your sport, simple carbs is good to consume BEFORE and IN BETWEEN of your workouts. #EatYummyBros & #RememberYourWhy
