The point of putting myself in uncomfortable situations isn’t just for the benefit of thing itself. • Meditation isn’t only to help control the chaos in my head, and it’s not some hippie bs. Cold showers aren’t only to train my vascular system or improve circulation and recovery. Breath work isn’t only to change my state or improve CO2 tolerance to perform better. Training for a difficult career path isn’t to prove anything to anyone. • By merely DECIDING to do the thing I’m not sure of, don’t want to do, or can’t do yet, I’m asserting control of my instincts to shrink back. • Being able to STAY in that uncomfortable place is like a mirror—it immediately shows if I am in control of the deepest part of my brain. • We get weak when there is no sharp contrast to work through. We live in an age of bringing everything to a comfortable baseline with the flip of a switch, adjustment of temperature or swallowing a pill. These luxuries, left unchecked, slowly kill any shred of fight left in us. We can’t deal with basic stress. We are civilized to death. Hips & Spine Decompression ••• Joint health and function is extremely important for all humans, especially if we want to feel good and perform better for as long as possible! We can help increase the longevity of our joints if we utilize proper warmups and cool-downs. ••• In the video above, I demonstrate four movements that can be used in a “Move N’ Groove” format. For example, each exercise 45s x3 rounds. You can use this as a pre-workout routine by moving a little faster, or you can use this as part of the decompression post-workout, trying to move slowly to allow your nervous system to get back to our “rest & digest” state (parasympathetic state). Got that push pull in tonight! Sometimes we don't have the motivation to do things. Tonight I was not motivated at all to train. I was working on some other projects and time was ticking. I thought, "Maybe I will just rest today. ". Then that voice went off in my head. "Don't be lazy. Are you injured? Are you too tired to train? No? Get dressed and make it happen!". Wooooo!!! I had a great strength training session tonight because I asked myself those questions. Remember not to get in your own way. Food and working out are drugs. They release chemicals and nutrients into your body. Don't make excuses. Make your quality of life better than what it is now. One day at a time with consistency. Meditation: Big Sky Mind *Sit still and let your eyes gently close. Begin by paying attention to all the sounds around you, noticing how the range of sounds evokes in you the sense of space. Let the attention become wide and open so that all the sounds are simply coming and going within the wide space of awareness, which is like a big empty sky. *After a few minutes, extend your attention to include body sensations. Sensations throughout the body can be felt as glimmers in the darkness of the night sky, arising and changing in the open space of awareness. *Next, include thoughts and images. Thoughts and images are like clouds drifting through the sky, all within the empty space of awareness. *When all these appearances have been noticed within the space of awareness, direct your attention to the knowing itself, which extends throughout the whole wide, empty space. I’ve been offline for a while—had a conference in Chicago—but I’m back! These new habits are still pretty new for me, so it was overwhelming to work on continuing to eat well, work out, attend the conference, study for the classes I was missing, AND keep up with social media updates! We booked a small suite with a kitchenette and prepped a lot of food, so we were able to stick to homemade soup, chicken, salads, apples, and all kinds of other good food while traveling—and bonus—we saved a ton of money doing so! We walked every day even though the Chicago wind was brutal, and the conference schedule kept us going from 8am till midnight every day, too!
