A dish I would certainly go back for, House of MU’s Crayfish Truffle Cream Risotto ($26) was wonderfully warm and comforting. Made for truffle lovers, the decadent risotto was both creamy and rich but accented with just the right amount of truffle - giving the smooth grains an incredible aroma and light earthy flavour. Topped with parmesan shavings and chunks of fresh, succulent seared crayfish; the dish was easily a hit at the table. Hence as part of their customisable risotto/pasta (linguine or spaghetti) menu, you can also change up your order with the standard base starting at $14. Choices for the sauces such as the classic tomato and Aglio Olio come at no extra charges or spurge a little with a top up of $6 for black ink. And of course, for proteins have your pick from options like Vongole ($5), Bacon ($6) or choose premium ingredients like Uni ($12) and Scallops ($12)! . Being someone who LOVES truffle, anything cooked in cream and risotto, this was definitely the dish for me. Do note that you can choose other bases such as tomato and black ink as well! (MEDIA INVITE) Truly obvious that I must have my meats. My eyes popped out when I saw this meat platter. ◽◾ Ribeye, sausages, duck, chicken, lamb, sweetcorn, eggplants and baby potatoes. Josper grilled. The aroma was itself quite tantalising. The meats had a distinct smoky aftertone. Simple marinated. More flavors released when the sprigs of thyme and rosemary were torched over the meats. A mini mention of the baby potatoes. Soft tender with a slight umaminess. ◽◾ A platter for four but could feed six. Plated with creamy cauliflower purée and refreshing julienned green apples, House of MU’s Pan Seared Scallops ($19/ 3 pieces) were both juicy and tender. A delightful starter, the French scallops were first sous-vide then seared on both sides which ensures even doneness as well as keeping the distinct flavours of the delicate shellfish. It can be fun to build your own pasta or risotto at @houseofmusg - our Crayfish Risotto with Truffle Cream turned out delicious and showed off Chef Tyrell’s mastery of technique with the arborio rice grains perfectly al-dente and not clumpy, and the crayfish properly seared. If anything we’re only confused by the concept - is it a cafe, a restaurant, a bar, or a furniture shop? Or all of the above?

Butternut Squash Soup ($9). This in fact appeared on the menu as "Soup of the Day", and it was so good. So good that it was rated as the favourite dish for many at our table. 🔸 All butternut squash would be nutty and sweet, but not all tasted as refined as this. And that's probably cos Chef Tyrell Joon, formerly Head Chef of the Les Amis Group, uses only premium ingredients. Truffle Cream Risotto with Crayfish [$26]. Trust the culinary team behind House of MU when it comes to their modern European cuisine. It’s hearty, comfort European food done very well using French and Italian techniques used in established fine dining restaurants. And helming this team is Head Chef Tyrell Joon, formerly from Iggy’s and the Les Amis Group. 🔸 We were recommended the truffle cream risotto with crayfish from the customisable carbs menu (mix and match your base from pasta or risotto, your sauce, and your proteins/seafood). 🔸 The three components here were all very well executed: * The risotto - done al dente, just like most Europeans would like it to be, and it had a texture close to that of barley. * The truffle cream – it was light, so it was neither overwhelming with truffle, nor was it too cheesy and creamy. I liked that it had the depth of flavours without being too rich. * The crayfish -  it was soft, springy and succulent, retaining most of the juices. It also had a nice grilled scent to it. M E D I A T A S T I N G Got to be honest, based on appearance and concept alone - it is a lifestyle furniture store selling wooden timber furniture made in Myanmar, and a restaurant, as well as a bar that also retails alcohol (am I the only one who feels slightly apprehensive about multi-concept places?), I wasn’t expecting the food here to taste as good as it did. Although @houseofmusg has been operating since April, they have only done their soft launch about a month ago. This was because they wanted to perfect the menu. Designed by Chef Tyrell Joon who used to work at Michelin starred restaurants such as Iggy’s and Le Amis, it is not complicated. In fact, it looks quite basic but when you taste the food, the fine dining quality is ever present, both in technique and taste. So everything we were served, tasted very good. << Swipe << and you will see in total four of the six items we ate during the hosted lunch. In a sea of ubiquitous soups out there, this butternut squash cream, the soup of the day ($9++), was outstanding. I was told Chef insists on using only the best ingredients and it was obvious from my first sip. He even chooses to serve it with imported Spanish crystal bread. The French scallops that followed, were pan-seared and plated with a creamy cauliflower purée and strips of refreshing green apple ($19++). I think it was another well-received dish by our whole table. For the carbs, I found it smart that they offer a format that allows customers to mix and match to their own preference. It begins with picking either risotto, spagetti or linguini ($14++ inclusive of garden greens). Next, the base sauce (add $6++ for this) of which the choices available are tomato, aglio olio, black ink or truffle cream. The last (optional) step is to top on ingredients that include either mixed vegetables, chicken breast or clams/vongole for an extra $5++. There’s crayfish or bacon too and these cost $6++ more. Based on the above price structure, the linguine aglio olio with clams we tried (I loved it for the rich umami taste of clams) was $25++. And the risotto cooked in truffle cream with two pieces of crayfish cost $26++. It was just as delicious.
