In the same way as this picture, if I am looking at the ferris wheel and get fixated on one part of it, I am not that part; I'm the person looking at the whole ferris wheel. This awareness empowers me to choose what part I am focused on. This, for me, was the biggest concept I learned when I was learning how to meditate. I am not my thoughts, I'm the thing observing my thoughts. Knowing this frees me to disconnect from any one thought and choose to attach to another one. This has been helpful in combating anxiety because often times, from the perspective of the watcher, my negative thoughts were shinier and thus more easy to see and get attached to -- leading to anxiety. As the watcher of all of my thoughts, I can choose to focus on something more positive. While my meditation practice has slowed, it made me realize that to be present was to first be aware of your role as the observer. Then as you watched your thoughts, and learned to engage or disengage with them, they slowed down to a halt. At this point, you can engage with the world as it is and interpret it more slowly, calmly and readily. I am going to work on meditating more so I can alleviate feelings of anxiety that come up for me from time to time. I definitely need to thank the app creator of @headspace for the lesson above. ✦ “Feel what you need to feel and then let it go. Do not let it consume you.” ✦ ✦ I am so grateful for working with my mindset coach. She is helping me discover so much about who I am, where I am going, and what is holding me back from being my most successful & true self. ✦ ✦ This week we worked on uncovering pain and feeding it forgiveness in order to move on. Forgiveness is a true strength that not all of us have, but it is necessary to have in order for us to leave the pain in the past and move into a more peaceful future. ✦ ✦ I discovered where I hold hurt in my life. I forgave the people who hurt me. I forgave myself for holding onto that hurt. I thanked these people for the painful lessons that taught me. I loved, and I let go. ✦ ✦ Now I catch myself... when these feelings of anger, resentment, jealousy, heartbreak come up, I reflect. Is this truly serving me? Is holding onto this feeling helping me, or poisoning me? It most likely isn’t doing any good, and when I can see that, I know it is time to release this negative energy. ✦ ✦ Is it time for you to release your past demons? Focus and reflect on if these emotions are serving who you want to be today. If they are not, you know what you need to do.
