I've been using @whoop for the last month and half and have been really intrigued by the data it gives me. The Whoop does a tons of things, but specifically it helps you determine how well you are recovered. Being in the red means you're not fully recovered. I rarely have more than one day in a row in the red, cause I'm mostly in the yellow. I found this very interesting. I started feeling crappy Monday and went downhill all day Tuesday. But on Sunday I just felt run down and tired (nothing too unusual). I was red Sunday through Tuesday, and I didn't quite now why because I didn't feel the typical sick stuff. Then I was red again on Wednesday morning and I felt terrible and sick. So I went into the doctor and what ya know I have strep. Now I'm not saying that the Whoop predicted me being sick, but it was definitely showing that I was not recovering each of those days. And when your body is fighting an infection, it definitely would have a hard time recovering. So I guess I now have data that the Whoop gives me to keep an eye on in the future and a possible way of knowing if I may being getting sick. #whoop #thewhoop #athletewearables #whatsyourstrain #dailystrain #scienceofstrain #strepsucks #hrv #thesciencebehindhrv

#thewhoop was my Xmas present 🎁 to myself to track my sleep quantity & quality because I felt I wasn’t sleeping well due to co-bedding. But I was wrong because it goes through sleep cycles etc...and I found that I am an overachiever with regard to sleep 😴!

Like my glasses? I used to see people wearing blue light blockers, and I thought they looked so dorky. 🤓However, I am now aware of how harmful blue light is and am happy to wear these puppies several hours before bed in order to reap the benefits. The luxuries of indoor lighting, computers, and phone screens are exposing us to much more blue light than our bodies can handle. Blue light overexposure is associated with macular degeneration and cancer, and it disrupts the quality of our sleep by interfering with melatonin production for up to four hours. Some studies have linked blue light to obesity, breast cancer, prostate cancer, diabetes, and heart disease-yikes. Since I have both genetic polymorphisms for macular degeneration, I am very interested in decreasing my risk for developing that problem down the road. I got a pair of Swannies for all of us, including our 11 year old daughter. Wearing these for several hours before bedtime will vastly improve the quality of sleep. I wear the Whoop to monitor my sleep stages and will post any sleep quality improvements over the next few weeks. I anticipate more deep wave sleep, which is super great since deep wave sleep is when we do deep body repair work and release HGH. So, dorky glasses it is! 👍 Health surpasses style choice. #MaverickMom

Do you sleep in on weekends to make up for lost sleep during the week? Guilty as charged over here! 🙋🏼‍♀️ I do, especially during the school year. I never feel great when I sleep “too long” or “too late” because I wake up feeling groggy. A new study out of Harvard might explain why! Sleep consistency, or going to sleep and waking up around the same time, might be just as important as sleep quantity. Sleeping for 7 hours per night during the week and 9 hours on the weekend may disrupt melatonin output and create a condition similar to jet lag. That might explain why those long nights of “catch up sleep” can leave us feeling somewhat lethargic. Try to stay consistent with your sleep timing to maximize your deep sleep, REM patterns, and circadian rhythm regularity. Healthy sleep patterns are also relevant (crucial, actually) for healthy mood. Most people experiencing depression had significant sleep problems long before the mood problems began. The graph here shows my own sleep/wake times over the past week, as measured by The Whoop. I like using the Whoop to measure Strain, Recovery, and Sleep quality vs quantity. You can see that I slept in last Sunday, when I woke up feeling like I slept for too long.
