One more point to go and I'll earn my Arizona Copper Star ⭐ . This past year I was grateful to represent The Mesa-PHX Marathon as one of their race ambassadors. It was a cool experience to not only promote the race and volunteer at the expo during bib pick-up but to interact so much with my Instagram and Twitter friends! Thank you for the support and I hope I helped you all with your race day questions! . Here I am in my ambassador shirt with my spread of medals from 2016 to 2019. Each point represents one of the 5 C's of Arizona. The 5 C's were the core of Arizona's economy when it first became a state 107 years ago. 2016 = Copper 2017 = Cattle 2018 = Cotton 2019 = Citrus 2010 = Climate. Can't wait to earn this last point! . The @phxmarathon is a favorite race of mine. The course is a fast one but also they give back to the community. DYK that they donate all profits to the Mesa-Phx Marathon Foundation? The foundation aims to provide scholarship funds for high school students who have participated in running related athletics and are dedicated to the pursuit of higher education. I wasn't a runner in HS and I wish I was. Not exactly sure why I was so reluctant to try running even though my Dad asked me so many times to join him. Thankfully I was brave enough to start in my mid-30s. Looooong run done! Wasn't feeling well and honestly wanted to quit after 2 mi. Was sure there was no way I'd be able to run for 3+ hours. Felt better after 5 mi. Got into a good flow at 13. Felt energized for the remainder. Happy dance at the end! Really glad I didn't give up in the beginning when things weren't going well. I love running ❤ · Low HR miles for the entire run. I got a replacement HR strap and am back to wearing it. The brief hiatus from it was just what I needed though and I highly recommend taking a break every once in awhile! · Marathon training Day 56 of 125 ·

The magical land of the red rock canyons. ✨ . . . Our air bnb is super close to this gorgeous trailhead that goes on for miles. As we worked our way up into the canyon and weaved through the switchbacks, it suddenly opened into this beautiful hidden valley surrounded by steep red rick walls. We spent the rest of the day exploring Arches National Park with the family, it was a little snowy and cold for the kiddos but we enjoyed the beauty, did a few short hikes and made the most of it (I think the kids favorite was the warm visitors center and gift shop 😂). Outdoor adventures with the kiddos aren’t always easy but they are always worth it. #optoutside

Let’s get real for a minute. Real vulnerable that is. For a lot of years I hated my legs. I was first called “thunder thighs” in 8th grade. I even remember who said it to me while walking down the hall at school. I’ve never had thin legs, and I hated that when I would try to workout to slim down, I would just build muscle. Not until I began running ten years ago did I start to really appreciate these legs. I’ve learned to love that my thighs have carried me thousands of miles, and let me “thunder” up and down mountains. But too often I slip back into picking myself apart, focusing only on the cellulite, stretch marks, the muffin top, or those funky skin squishes that always show up in race photos. I look in the mirror 👉🏼 and see that my shorts are a little too snug again. (And that the mirror needs to be washed, but that’s another conversation entirely 😂) Last week as I was trying to get a decent treadmill pic (because Instagram), the camera slipped from where I propped it and ended up at this awkward angle. While it wasn’t what I wanted, it was a good reminder. If I saw this picture from anyone else I would think “Whoa! She is strong!”, not that these legs are too big, too muscular, too much...or even notice the cellulite! So thanks to an outtake, and a little shift in perspective, I am reminded that we see what we choose to see. We can focus on the perceived flaws, the not-good-enough’s, the still shot in the mirror that we compare to some image of what we “should” be. Or we can be grateful for who we are, and take action to create what we want to become. So get out there and be strong. The face of relief, endorphins, and pure elation!!! (also, I’m trying really hard to not always have pictures w a Starbucks cup in my hand😅) . Was intimidated by today’s repeat-tempo type workout, so I joined up with two dads in the neighborhood, whom I knew would help me keep pace. I’m not used to running with men, tbh, let alone older dads who are super-smart, ivy-league professors who also grew up running track and XC. . But whatever. I’ve got a goal to accomplish!!! So I thank you next’d my Imposter Syndrome and joined these guys, and WOULDN’T YA KNOW, I knocked my workout outta the park!! . 2-mile warmup 10min @ avg 7:25 (9:25 recovery) 10min @ avg 7:45 (10:30 recovery) 10min @ avg 8:00 cooldown to 8-miles + corework!!😅💦 . Long run done. And on a beautiful and sunny Sunday afternoon. ☀️ I am so grateful that I’m feeling so much better today. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. Even my eye pain drastically went down overnight. 🙏🏻 . I ran this run half naked. 😆 Meaning no Garmin. Just Strava splits each mile. I was shocked to feel like I was just trotting along and then hear my splits. It was a great run. And it’s always nice to take a break from watching the pace and let your legs just do their thing. 🙌🏻 . Now home to relieve my sitter. I only have enough cash for two hours on the dot. This past Saturday was not the race I’d hoped for... my first DNF. @runlikeadiva put on a well-organized, well-supported race and after I alerted course officials I had to cut it short, they still insisted I take a medal and asked if I had a good time. #classact I’ll be donating the bling to @medals4mettle along with some others - I’ve wanted to do this for some time and am grateful for this impetus to do so... after some reflection, I’m trying to focus on the beauty (it was a gorgeous course) and also take my own advice and practice some self-compassion. Lovely #chestday today then ran on the treadmill with a 1.0 incline as suggested by a fellow runner. And really surprised myself still. But glad to take a couple days off to heal some. My shin started hurting mid run again. So I’m sure it’s agitated and need some ice and compression for a couple days.

. My legs are feeling 80% better after this weekend. Good enough for some TRX assisted stretching and squats. Notice those ankles wanting to pop my heels off the ground? 😬 No big deal. — I’m looking forward to getting back to strength training and putting running back on the “just for fun” sidelines for a bit. I love running. I don’t necessarily love training pressure. I used to. I loved the thrill of the chase. Landing a new goal and looking for the next one. Now? Now I like to experience. Part of that means staying strong and capable for ALL the fun things I enjoy. — So, what’s next? Well, now that’s an adventure waiting to be revealed. 😏💪🏼

There is no such thing as “wake up early to workout alone” in my house. Sometimes I maybe get 30 minutes before someone wakes up & some days I don’t even get fully dressed before someone’s up. It’s not impossible to workout with your kids you just have to roll with the punches. I would say this has become so routine that my kids are “trained” to workout time.
