195 x 10 today for the bench press from today. Now let’s talk about bench arches. Some people commented on my last #bench video worrying about me hurting myself using this large arch I have on the #benchpress however it’s quite the opposite. The arch is use is very large and used to move as much weight as my body can handle, the arch decreases ROM and opens up more space in my shoulder joint (glenohumeral joint if we wanna use technical terms). So it’s not hurting my shoulders at all. However what about my back? Still nothing unsafe there. The back has 3 big regions you hear about a lot which are the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions. All of my mobility and bending occurs mostly in my thoracic spine. The thoracic spine has around 25-45 degrees of extension in most people. Most people. I am very flexible for powerlifting standards and regular people standards, so I can move my back more in safe ranges of motions. So don’t listen to people who tell you not to arch on a bench press. It’s safe and necessary! For the other videos, I did a 2 board press max effort attempt and got 235, 250 failed sadly. Also more scapula pull downs, this time unilateral ones to get my shoulder in work condition for pull ups. Haven’t been able to do a body weight pull up in months. Hurt my shoulder at jiu jitsu and it hasn’t been the same for that movement. But it unveiled imbalances I didn’t even know I had so I’m learning from it. #deadlift 235x1 240x1 The bar was slippery and really stiff so I decided to use the straps. I got a hard 240 but the camera stopped recording. There was a time (when I started powerlifting) when I couldn’t get 220. That was at 45 years of age. I am now 50. I have pulled 245 without straps. I’m close to equalising and hopefully surpassing that number. It goes to show. It’s never too late. Age is a number.
