Happy Humpday! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Half way through the week means we are that much closer to the weekend! And this weekend is my two day bachelorette party so I’m so super excited. I’ve been in a massive calorie deficit for a couple weeks now and so far have lost 3kg, I’m weighing myself every day to get an average and I have gone up a little but that’s to be expected with daily fluctuations. The most important thing right now is to keep up the momentum of tracking food and getting in daily activity and training sessions. I’ve always struggled with my weight, I love food so much and when it comes to it, I don’t have much discipline. The driver for this was my wedding and I hope to keep it up past February too as I’m feeling great in my training sessions! If you feel like you’re stuck in a rut please feel free to message me! Client does chin up. Client: That’s mad isn’t it? Me: Not really we trained for it. 3 weeks prior to this my client said she would love to be able to do chin ups, so I asked her to try it and see what she could do. She had her hands on the bar ready to pull herself up and did not budge. That was her starting point. From there, at the beginning of her lower body sessions(x2 times a week) we started training for a full chin up. Picked lower body days as doing a chin up requires you to pull your entire bodyweight against gravity. That can be taxing and leaves the upper body muscles fatigued which could then interfere with the upper body session. Started doing deficit chin ups, isometric holds in the stretched position of the movement and assisted chin ups. 3 weeks later and voila. She performed a chin up and could not believe it. “That’s mad isn’t it?” “Not really we trained for it.” This wasn’t random, just like getting down to 12% body fat from 20% isn’t random. You set out what you want to achieve, you create a plan and you execute. Things don’t happen by chance, or better yet. Don’t leave things to chance or they might not happen. #clientprogression #chinups

Great evening session tonight. Maybe not the training. But the feedback I did get from a guy out there today. The fittest guy walks up to me and ask me if I’m injured? I answered him no? why? He said because your chin ups looks shit! I love that straight forward honestly. I started laughing because i now he was right. I’m have always been lazy when it comes to chin ups and never tried to to them right. I needed that feedback so much. Note to self don’t try and do pull ups the day after back day. Sometimes people are so worried about form and technique that they’re not willing to give things a go. I don’t care if I look like a prize idiot, I’d much rather try than not at all. Chin ups and pull ups can look easy but they are actually quite an advanced level exercise. If you are looking for a way to increase the amount you can do, or maybe you are just trying to learn these challenging moves, then try adding negatives into your workout. You can perform them on their own like my epic PT client Chrissy is doing in the video or if you can complete a few full reps then tag a couple on to the end of your last set. They are a great way to help keep you progressing. A negative simply means performing the lowering (eccentric) part of any lift, slowly and under control, ideally taking around 3-5 seconds. You are 20-30% stronger on this part of a lift than you are on the lifting (concentric) part of any movement, so even if you find you can’t perform the concentric part of this exercise (yet) you can still build up your strength by using this technique. They are, however very taxing on your muscles so use them sparingly. Once you can control this lowering portion of these exercises for 5 reps then you’re ready to move onto the next phase. Workout from Monday. Was pretty long weekend in terms of conditioning, refereed on Friday night, Rower sprints on Saturday, and played about 2 hrs on Sunday afternoon. So kept it short but intense. Squats; Pin squat 120kgx1(just wanted to try these and see what they felt like, been a very long time since I have done any squat variations) 132.5kgx5 Chin ups; 5 sets of 3 reps, 2 min rest(keeping my rest periods down) Superset; DB Bench Press, 30kgx6x3 Elevated foot split squats 18kgx5x3 Chins are starting to feel alot better. Going to work up to a set of 10 over the next 6 weeks or so. After that I will begin to weight them.
