Well guys, if you think that just because you’ve never been pregnant you can’t have a diastasis, then I’d like to respectfully point out all the gentlemen walking around with “beer guts” and “pot-bellies.” Most of the physical therapists I know who specialize in diastasis recti report seeing men with ab separation that’s just as bad as women who’ve had babies, if not worse! This looks wayyyy easier than it is! . To be in control enough not to just be a burr of wobbly colour! . I have always managed to keep good core strength, ‘snapped back’ after babies and maintained the strength. In my early 20’s I spent several hours a week in the gym. So, to have it completely destroyed has been really tough! . I left hospital in a wheelchair with barely strength to stand, and only for a minute or 2 before I was exhausted and would fall. . I couldn’t get up out of bed without help, a lot of huffing and puffing, not to mention the air would turn blue. 🤭 . The first time I discovered I couldn’t cough was when a sip of drink went down the wrong way, scary moment to realise you can’t cough your way out of choking! I was lucky to have family and friends making sure I was never alone. I couldn’t raise my voice at all, as it hurt and actually you use your tummy muscles then too! Breathing, Leaning, Laughing, Sneezing, Hiccuping all would be extremely uncomfortable. . Sitting, yup just sitting was hard! I couldn’t be sat straight up or I’d slowly slump down like a capital C melting. . Now a year later, I have various aches & pains that I think are back related, presumably because they are the only muscles that hold me up! So, just a few weeks ago, I couldn’t keep this balance board steady... now I can. Swimming tomorrow (assuming it’s a reasonable pain day), I wonder if Cranio may be of some help? Anyone found cranio helpful for this kind of thing?
