I get this question quite often as a coach. - The best starting position on the deadlift is when you scapula (shoulder blades) are directly over the barbell. - The Barbell will NOT move off the floor unless your scapula is directly over the bar (unless the weight is too light). - If you’re wondering what your hip height should be, your body will automatically default to this position before the bar breaks the floor. - The next time you deadlift, try to film yourself. Pay attention to when you start pulling and when the barbell leaves the floor. If there’s a change in your hip position, your scapula is probably not directly over the barbell. - Beginners often make the mistake of treating the Deadlift like a Squat. When you squat down too low, your scapula will be behind the barbell. As soon as you start pulling, your hips will shoot up first. Yesdy I did some deadlifts. They were much worse than I was expecting. My conditioning is shithouse for 8's, and my hands have gone all weak on me. The knurling on the powerbar made me it's bitch. Anyway, here's a set of 80kg for 8. Hopefully I'll be able to progress these pretty aggressively and get some dignity back. It also looks like perhaps having my hips a bit higher suits me better? It's hard to say because the intensity is pretty low, but I definitely feel my glutes and hamstrings more with my hips higher. Might also bring my stance in too, because my knees didn't quite feel as stable. I guess I'm a conventional-ish sumo deadlifter now ... - Follow @TRStrongFit

You know, 99% of the time, when I'm lifting and I have my headphones in, I'm blasting my music harddd lol. ***New 5 rep PB*** . 👀 Lifting in front of the "wall of fame" at @commandotemple always adds a bit of pressure 😅. . . . I'm still in that happy place where @focused.strength's programming _pushes_ me, but doesn't force me to find out what my maxes are. . . . That means I get more PBs than average at the moment 😜. . . . But still, a year ago 5 of these at 83kg would have felt extremely difficult, which is clear evidence of progress so I'm going to damn well celebrate it. 🎉🎊😁 . . . ✔️ Small victories lead to big ones. Fact. 👆🏼 . . . ✔️ Pausing to celebrated these builds confidence and, in turn, resilience. It helps counteract extremely destructive self-talk patterns (hands up 🙋🏻‍♀️ if you recognise any of these): "I could have done more, I shouldn't be proud of myself"... "I only managed that because of XYZ"... "Person A is still better than me so what's the point"... . . . ✔️ Celebrating small wins helps stay focused on the bigger goals, because it keeps you motivated (all that dopamine blah blah blah) 🤪🤯🤓 . . .
