Stiff Neck💫⠀ .⠀ Q: how does one look cool pushing their head into their hand? ⠀ A: they don’t.⠀ .⠀ If you haven't picked up on the vibe I'm putting out... stretching is only half the battle of this whole healing thing.⠀ .⠀ We gotta load the muscles to really make a lasting change.⠀ .⠀ In cases of neck tension (precipitating headaches), the muscles have often been taken out of their optimal length- either short or long- and as such have lost their ideal strength capacity. Gotta load em up so they can do their thang, properly.⠀ .⠀ But things hurt, you say. A great category of exercise to start building back strength, endurance and reducing pain are isometric holds.⠀ .⠀ I love 'em because you're totally in control of how much resistance you put into the move. And with no change in joint angle or muscle length they’re super low impact on the area.⠀ .⠀ For the neck, simply work on all directions- flexion, extension, lateral flexion and rotation. Move your head like you're going to make the motion and block it with your hand. Boom. 💥⠀ .⠀ Hold 30-45 seconds a motion, 2-3 times and enjoy.⠀ .⠀ via @drkatie_clare⠀ .⠀ Questions? Comments? CORE STRENGTH⠀ —⠀ Isometric core exercises are often categorized by the motion an individual is resisting while performing them. If you are performing “anti rotation”, you are trying to resist rotation. If you are performing “anti extension”, you are trying to resist the extension force of gravity by engaging your flexors (abdominals).⠀ —⠀ Isometrics during rehabilitation can be a great place to begin building some baseline capacity and control. HOW TO ADD BODY WEIGHT EXERCISES TO YOUR TRAINING ?⁠ ⁠ The great thing about body weight exercises is the fact that the intensity is relative to the person doing them. You are using your own body weight to do exercises such as single leg squat; push ups and pull ups.⁠ As always you want to progress and give the body a reason to adapt and get stronger whether you are working with weights or your own body weight.⁠ ⁠ 😉You might wonder how can I progress when using own body weight (OBW) exercises as you can not necessarily increase the intensity by increasing the weight as with dumbbells or machines. ⁠ ⁠ It doesn’t matter which OBW exercise you are doing, you can apply these 3 methods to progress with OBW exercises:⁠ ⁠ 1️⃣Increase the repetitions over weeks.⁠ For example pull ups. In Week 1 you would do 3 sets of 5 repetitions. In week 2 you will do 3 sets of 6 repetitions.⁠ ⁠ 2️⃣As Many Repetitions As Possible⁠ For example decide you are going to do 3 sets of push ups and in each set you want to do as many repetitions as possible. Set 1 you might do 10; set 2 you might do 8 and in set 3, 5 reps. You can also put time to it; for example. Give yourself 3 sets of 30s and see how many squat jumps you can do in 30s.⁠ ⁠ 3️⃣Playing with the Tempo of the exercise is another way to lift the intensity of OBW exercises.⁠ For example in a pull up, you can make the lowering / eccentric part of the exercise longer by taking 4/5 s to lower instead of just dropping⁠ ⁠ There is also the option of playing with the range of motion and Isometric method to increase the intensity of body weight exercises.⁠ ⁠ ❓Would you like me to make a video on this?⁠ ⁠ ⁠Music by @LiQWYD, Feel It⁠ ⁠ #bodyweightexercises⁠

Nagging back pain? The quadratus lumborum, connects your hips, spine and rib cage. It is an often overlooked muscle, with a very profound effect on back pain and posture. .⠀ .⠀ Try releasing your quadratus lumborum. It might do the trick! 🙂⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ⠀ Instructions:⠀ 1️⃣Seat on a couch or on the floor with legs open, left knee straight and right knee bent. ⠀ 2️⃣With a resistance band wrapped on your left foot, hold the band with your right hand grabbing the band as close to the left foot as possible.⠀ 3️⃣Using your back muscles, pull on the band with about 20 -60 percent of your strength. Hold that pull for 15 seconds, then relax for a few seconds. ⠀ 4️⃣Reach again towards your left foot and hold for 30 seconds. It is very likely that you could reach further. ⠀ 5️⃣Repeat this pulling, relaxing and reaching cycle, for a total of 3-5 times. ⠀ 6️⃣Switch sides and repeat the same process. .⠀ .⠀ via @jhancarlos_g⠀ ⠀ Give this a try and share it with someone who needs it! *⠀
