Up and at it this morning! Along with me was my little boy who fell asleep on the couch as I got my exercise in! * * This is Day 3 post-op for him and dad is staying home with him instead of momma 🙁, so he had to get snuggle time in. For mom it was Day 51 Cardio Meltdown from #morningmeltdown100 ! * * Now time to shower, get daughter up, fed and dropped off at school. Then I am going to go teach all day, track conditioning after school, then puck up daughter at 4:30 to head home, fix dinner, read with kids, tuck into bed, pack lunches, backpacks and layout clothes! Then probably around 9:00 pm I’ll sit down to write lesson plans for Friday, Monday and Tuesday for my guest teacher while I’m out again with my son! My takeaways from last weekend’s experience (continued from last post): 1. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. (It’s so easy to take symptoms for granted and to keep on going with our daily lives, to finish our never-ending to do lists, but we can’t do all of these if our body is no longer up to it.) 2. Go to the ER if something is wrong. Better safe than sorry. If it’s nothing, wala namang nawala save for a little time lost and ER charges. Knowing your condition is worth it. 3. Each time there’s a chance to make a choice, always choose the healthier route - with products we use, with routines, food we eat, supplements to take. It’s a good thing I’ve been a little active the past half year. I was in good enough condition to be seriously injured. Any stories like mine? Tips? Peg for my later years. Being surrounded by health, wellness, and fitness experts and enthusiasts has got me thinking about longevity and long term health goals. My most immediate goal is to address my back and shoulder pains so I can do my duties as a mom and as a mompreneur comfortably. There are bigger goals of course, like staying like this, maintenance-meds free for as long as I can and with good mobility in later years. Last weekend, I was horrified that around 11 pm, after taking a warm shower, I felt my legs go numb. I could walk, but if I run my fingers through my legs from knee to ankle, there is reduced sense of feeling. Something was wrong. I decided to let it rest for the night, I used my circulation-supporting essential oils, and slept. In the morning, the numbness was still there. I called a doctor friend and we both thought it was a nerve thing - not an emergency situation (thanks so much, Tina!). But I decided to go to the ER still. It was a Sunday and there were no doctors’ clinics open. ER doctor tested my reflexes; they were good. I was discharged and directed to take Vit. B complex for the nerves. Yesterday I went to my neurologist. The finding was impinged nerve. Nothing serious. “I can assure you that’s not a stroke.” As he was giving me prescriptions, he said, “Lastly, don’t worry.” Nerves recover. However, I need to stop some of my practices. Bawal na magcross ng legs, I need to make sure my position is good whenever I drive (and I spend a lot of time on the road), and sadly, no more heavy MFR and deep tissue massages. While these give me relief, they can damage muscles and nerves. I was arguing pa with my doctor that I need these but I will listen and follow.
