I used to think that, too.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🍞I have some good news for you.. eating carbs after 6pm, 6:01pm, 8:00pm or 11:00pm is fine.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🥞I personally eat 3 big meals per day. Breakfast between 9-11am, lunch around 2-3pm and dinner around 8pm. Each of meals contains 50-60 grams of carbs. And guess what, I’m still losing fat!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🥖Why? Cause as long as you’re in a calorie deficit, you can enjoy your carbs!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🍌Carbs don’t make you gain weight. Carbs also don’t magically flip a switch and change scientific properties at 6:01pm.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🍓If you prefer eating carbs at night, go for it. No food will inherently make you gain weight. Do you believe things happen for a reason? Well the summer of 2014 changed the trajectory of my entire fitness journey. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉🏻I had just joined my first gym and all my confidence went from 100 to 0 👉🏻Shortly after getting married my grandfather fell extremely ill and passed away. 👉🏻I decided to sign up for a half marathon in his honor and run with a group #introvertanxiety 👉🏻Only to learn that my body was not built to be a long distance runner, and if I ran the race I could tear my Achilles (thanks to CECS and a short soleus muscle) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Not exactly the start I had hoped for. But I promise you, it all works itself out. Maybe not tomorrow or next week, but it finds the right time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For the first time, maybe ever, I didn’t give up. I didn’t want to disappoint my grandfather. So I searched for “non running competitions” and found bikini bodybuilding. Alright, here is a quick 10 minute workout for you. This will have you sweaty and your heart rate up. Set a time for 10 minutes and do as many rounds as possible: Renegade rows 10 each arm Reverse crunches 20 Dumbbells thrusters 10 Here are some helpful tips that work for me: For the renegade rows make sure your not twisting your torso when you switch arms or when your actually performing the row. And you don’t need to do a push up between rows, unless you want to of course 😜 For reverse crunches make sure that your back starts and comes back flat, there should not be an arch in your back. For dumbbell thrusters, your legs are doing most of the work, so don’t go from a squat to a standing position and then press the dumbbells up, it should be a fluid motion. I don't think I've ever properly Introduced myself...⠀ ⠀ Last week I went and visited one of my online clients @lgtnhereyes that just signed on with me since she only lives a couple hours away, to go over her plan and to do a workout with her. While we were sitting there talking she said "your plan makes everything so easy for me, it takes a lot of stress away."⠀ ⠀ Now this isn't the first time I've heard this from a client and I'm not saying this to be cocky because I'm forever grateful to those that I have worked with so far and as much as I've helped them, they have helped me by pushing to do more as I can't let them down! But on the drive home that night those words just stuck in my head like cement, a spark went off so bright it gave me goosebumps.⠀ ⠀ I realized passion isn't something you follow. Passion is something that will follow you as you put in the hard work to become valuable to the world.⠀ ⠀ You know when you have found your passion when it gives you a sense of purpose to exist in this world. It also helps to instill something bigger and greater than just yourself. As long as what you’re pursuing moves beyond just the selfish reasons and really attempts to contribute value to the world, it will help you fulfill something far greater than you could ever imagine. What is flexible dieting?⠀ ⠀ One of my favorite definitions comes directly from one of my favorite mentors in the business @biolayne "It’s just like it sounds. Flexible dieting. No foods are off limits -is that your diet is neverending. The Skittles you eat off the floor of Denny’s, the beers you pounded before you made that terrible choice to eat off the floor, the hot skillet they bring you, all the way to Thanksgiving dinner—all of these comprise the totality of your diet." -Fat loss forever⠀ ⠀ "In part, flexible dieting:⠀ •• Takes into account your social, cultural, religious, and political ideologies⠀ •• Allows you to enjoy the things you like with little restriction⠀ •• Prioritizes good food choices⠀ •• Doesn’t delineate between “clean” or “dirty” foods"⠀ -Fat loss forever - @biolayne⠀ ⠀ No matter what your goals are when it comes to nutrition you should have some sort of routine or guideline. You should be as consistent as possible even when you are a flexible dieter. Don't assume macros are magic and that you can fall off track multiple times per week and say it's ok because you are a flexible dieter. If you want to progress, you need to work at being consistent.⠀ ⠀ Don't abuse the fact that you can enjoy all food in moderation. Flexible dieting doesn't mean you are eating pop tarts and candy most of the time. Just because it fits your macros, doesn't mean it's healthy.⠀ ⠀ How do you know if you are eating healthy? Nutrient density means you are getting sufficient protein, micronutrients - including fiber. Ideally, fill your fiber target of 25-30g daily (for women) and you can have a treat or less desirable choice free of guilt and the bonus, it won't hinder your progress. ⠀ ⠀ Right now, if you are eating a restricted meal plan, wishing you could have just one cookie in hopes it doesn't ruin your results, consider the approach. How do you truly feel about your current program? How do you think you will feel 1 month, 3 months from now if you feel trapped in the diet and program?⠀ ⠀ Stop wishing you can have that cookie or piece of pizza. Stop wishing the diet would end! 👉We're in the swing of resolution season, and there's a good chance that someone you know is "cutting carbs." Sure, to create a reasonable caloric deficit, odds are you're indeed going to be reducing your usual carb (and) fat intake, and adding in protein for its muscle sparing properties - right? Just willy-nilly bringing the axe down on an entire macronutrient category is not a good idea, and it will surely backfire.😐 Remember, for every gram of glycogen (stored carbohydrate energy) in your body, there's 3 grams of water bound to it. So when you cut out those carbs, you're burning through the glycogen stores and dumping off all the water that was bound to it. A normal carb-containing meal or two and a few glasses of water will put your glycogen (and the attached water) right back to normal, and those pounds you quickly lost are right back where you found them. 😑 If reducing your body fat is your goal, actually focus on losing fat, not just weight. 👍
