An excellent basic exercise to strengthen weightlif

BACK SQUAT (PAUSE) An excellent basic exercise to strengthen weightlifter’s legs and improve the dynamics of movement. The main emphasis in this exercise is certainly put on the acceleration of the barbell in the phase of extension. But in order to perform it right and have the desired effect, it is highly important to perform all the previous elements correctly. The phase of downward movement should be performed at a below average pace, all attention should be focused on the center of gravity, position of your back, knees pushed out to the sides, and pelvis pulled back. It is important to squat down to the bottom (hamstrings laid on your calfs). In the bottom position, relax leg muscles completely for 2 -3 seconds, but the back and trunk remains “tense”. The phase of extension is performed in a dynamic-explosive mode. It's not just recovery from the bottom position, it's important to monitor the following important points: • body tense (solid), the head is directed forward; • push your pelvis back from the full foot; • push your knees out to the sides; • try to do the leg extension as quickly as possible; speed should increase steadily together with the movement upwards. ——— @TORWOD ——— Важно сесть в полный глубокий сед (hamstrings lays on your calfs). CLEAN (blocks) + Front SQUAT CLEAN from the blocks is one of the best exercises for the simultaneous development of technical elements of the power position-drop under the barbell. The recommended height of the blocks is a barbell below the knees. When the barbell is placed above the knee level, there is a risk of pulling and slipping through the power position. In this case, this exercise can even ruin the technique. Since the athlete has to work on the shortened amplitude of the movement, it is important to apply much more starting force and develop more power during the speed up and after that immediately move swiftly under the barbell and rotate elbows. A mistake that occurs often enough - athletes do not get up from the squat, but drop the barbell immediately on the blocks after taking it. As we know, for an effective CLEAN&JERK, it is necessary to form a stereotype of movement in CLEAN, i.e., in the athlete's mind the movement should begin in the starting position, and end already in the standing position. To work on the angles and improve the workability, after a short explosive CLEAN, FRONT SQUATs will be perfect to work all the muscles in a more power mode on a long range of motion. Front SQUAT Despite the fact that BACK SQUATs are considered to be the most effective exercise for developing leg strength, I would say that for weightlifters the FRONT SQUAT is more useful. This exercise forces not only your leg muscles, but all the muscles of our body to work as well, in exactly in those "angles" that are most important for CLEAN&JERK. According to a large body of research, leg strength is considered to be optimal when the result in BACK SQUAT (1RM) is about 110-120% of your CLEAN&JERK. I consider that technique is the most important in this exercise, not kilograms. The development of the correct trunk position, elbows, mechanics and movement tempo, which makes possible to prepare our body for shock loads in CLEAN&JERK and progress safely. I believe that an athlete should always hold the bar with a full grip, if he can’t do it - it is a matter of flexibility and, as a result, safety. The solution is quite simple - FRONT SQUATs with straps, no matter how strange it sounds. At first, it can be unpleasant and even painful, so start SQUATing with the straps with light weight and as a warm-up. In 3 weeks you’ll see results. This study compared the effects of doing full, half and quarter range squats, on vertical jump height and 40-yard sprint time. The results showed that doing quarter squats resulted in the greatest improvements in vertical jump height and 40-yard sprint time. There’s been other studies that have also found similar results. . This doesn’t mean that anyone who wants to get faster/jump higher should go out and start only doing quarter squats. There is a time and place for everything and if incorporated into a properly designed program, quarter squats can really help improve vertical jump height and sprint times. . Let’s say you want to add muscle mass to your legs (hypertrophy). You would be better off doing full range squats (the specific depth of a full range squat will depend on the individual, not all athletes should squat below parallel). Full range squats are far more stressful on the body and the muscles and are therefore more suited to hypertrophy. . You could then do a max strength cycle, where you still do full range squats, but you focus on max strength (ie under 6 reps). Then once you get closer to competition/game time, you could use quarter squats as a peaking method, to essentially put the icing on the cake and specifically prep the athlete for jumping/sprinting! . There’s a time and place for everything. Context is king! .
