When I saw the scales this morning my first reaction was to leave. However I got outside and realised that was achieving nothing and went back in. Instead of burying my head in the sand, I rang a friend and talked about it. Instead of going and buying shit food and then going home, feeling even shitter for it and ending up in a viscous circle of self loathing and eating rubbish, I stayed to group and left with a completely different mindset. It sounds cheesy but today’s been such a learning curve for me and step in the right direction and I couldn’t be prouder of myself or more thankful for the support I have. During my first year of university I tried to change my eating habits to lose weight but had less or no motivation at all. It’s easy to let yourself get caught up with what’s going on around you and not take care of yourself. By not allowing yourself to get the proper time to rest, it can take a toll on you physically. It can cause headaches, being tired and other physical ailments. I know because I’m dealing with them all today. I’ve been working everyday for 2 weeks. Sunday night, I got home at midnight and less than 5 hours of sleep that night. I didn’t have much of a chance to catch up on sleep the rest of the week, and paired with a cat that starts waking me up at 5am, it caught up with me. It started as a little sore throat Thursday morning. By last night, not only was it a sore throat, but a headache and stuffy nose as well. I don’t get sick often at all, and don’t even remember the last time I was, but by not giving myself the proper time to rest and catch up on sleep, here I am, sick. I had to work a bit this morning, and will run to get some groceries here shortly, but those are my only plans for today. Examples are a bowl of pasta with tomato sauce for dinner 🍝, porridge & cereals for breakfast 🥣 or pizza (the toppings are usually not protein rich) 🍕. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Instead make sure you eat a portion of protein with it, if you don't eat meat, have a protein shake along with your meal 🥛⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ If you have a protein shake for breakfast, don't have just that, add soaked porridge oats 👌you get my drift. ⁣ If you've ever had peanut butter on slices of apple or banana, you'll know how full it kept you over just the fruit on its own🍏🥜⁣ ⁣ *Peanut butter on apple - great snack idea! 👌⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ WHY?⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ The science 🤓: Carbohydrates spike insulin levels and we know where there is a spike ⬆️ soon after there is a drop ⬇️ which causes you to feel hungry and eat before you are ready - totalling more calories, meaning weight gain.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Protein acts as a buffer to carbohydrates meaning the insulin releases more slowly in the bloodstream and therefore comes down equally slowly, you feel hungry further on in the day and much less so. This means you eat less calories overall which leads to better weight control, you will also feel more energy through the day. Today I went to watch cricket (PSA: there's a world cup, it's in the UK). Previously, I would have used it as an excuse to eat junk food all day. However, this time, I stopped and asked myself - do I really need a "high" from food when I'll already be doing something I enjoy, that makes me happy? It's along the same theme as - do you really need alcohol to have fun versus *choosing* to have a glass of wine? Do you really want a slice of cake on your coffee date or do you want it just because it's there? It's always a choice - and you are free to make either without judgement. On this occasion, I realised I wanted food I'd enjoy, that would make me feel good and happy. This was my list of things - yes, veg crisps falls under grey area for nutrition (simply because I have a tendency of overeating crisps, salty, crunchy, mmmm) but I *really* enjoy it, so I just bought a smaller bag 🙃. . It's been hard for me to accept that being a small female means eating less than my many male friends but I'm learning to optimise my diet so that I can enjoy my food without feeling deprived - #balance and all that!

Knocked out some muffins using the pulp from my juice this morning (carrot, celery and cucumber). Turned out great! Made my own oat flour as I had a ton of oats so why not. Substituted flax seed eggs for regular eggs, and Greek yogurt for oil (my first time doing this as I usually swap in unsweetened applesauce for butter or oil when I bake). Also added vanilla bean paste, cinnamon, maple syrup, coconut palm sugar, and of course the baking norms of baking soda and powder. I also threw in some walnuts.
