lavivaverde. After slowly watching my own small business grow I’ve finally reached

After slowly watching my own small business grow I’ve finally reached the point where I can stand back and be proud of what I have built. Being a self-employed ceramicist, the material itself (clay) is not all that expensive. The real investment is in the machinery needed to make my work come to life- a kiln. This completes the process- from wet clay, to functional ceramic ware you can hold in your hands and use throughout your days. Back in my hometown, I used to fire my work at an amazing community studio. It was easy and didn’t cost very much either. I could make my pieces in the comfort of my home and once they were ready, I was able to take them to the community studio where I could use their glaze and kilns for a small fee. Now, after recently moving out of state, the situation has changed; I’m finding it slow, difficult, and a bit costly to create my work. Although there is nothing outrageously wrong with the local studio in my new city (in fact I have moved to this city partly because it has a wonderful community centered around art). The fact of the matter is this little business is craving an expansion. •• LA VIVA VERDE has found its family, and I am grateful, and humbled by your support. Since this babe is my only source of income now, and I have come so far in bringing forth the work that I do, I want to finally complete my studio by giving the business it’s very own kiln. •• LA VIVA VERDE is me, but it is also the beautiful community that has welcomed me. There is so much potential and limitless possibilities in all that I can create- all I need is a little assistance in getting there, over the next hill, and beyond. My wish is to delve deeper into my creations with all that my mind and heart can come up with and, hopefully, offer more of my work to the world. •• I am starting a Gofundme in order to try and accomplish this dream, I will post the link in my bio. Any help is appreciated to the moon and back. ✨ Thank You All For Allowing Me To Get This Far With What I Love #lavivaverde #news #growth #smallbusiness #ceramicstudio #functionalsculpture #snailbusiness #handbuiltpottery #gofundme #kiln #goals #dreams #reality

I dedicate this mug to my Hubby, who graciously puts up with my crazy dreams, insane studio hours and insufferable personality. Believe me when I tell you, he is a saint. Love you forever and always, hun! ❤️❤️❤️

One of the things I have always struggled with as a potter is the plate form. I primarily slipcast my cups, bowls and mugs but plates are another story. Also, plates require a different ornamentation as the eating and serving surface gets a lot of use and abuse. They can’t be too delicate, but they’re unappealing when they’re too heavy and they need to stack happily without chipping, oftentimes with other types of plates. They take up weird space in the kiln and require clean table space in the studio (often a premium in my little sunroom) all that aside, I felt the need to find something that works and I think I’ve got it! These hand built fellows with an inlaid rim are making their debut at the St. Paul American Craft Council @craftcouncil show and I can’t wait to show them off! Also, had to share this lovely portrait by @madisonraeholler Hope everyone is having a great weekend! #plates #handmadeplates #handbuiltpottery #porcelainpottery #mishima #ceramics #handbuiltplates #slabbuilt #blackandwhiteplates

Um... kinda got a bit carried away with the ole egg trays, walked away from making the last one at 11pm last night 😴. What I like about repeating a design is the opportunity to refine as you go along. I used a different approach to these than the last batch, a thicker slab placed on a block of foam then used the handle of a pokie thing to hand form each little well for an egg to sit in. I also had in mind making them in different sizes, some people have big counter spaces in their kitchen and may have a large family so a dozen eggs can be stored or if you’ve a gallery kitchen the slimmer version, my faves are the 9 and the 4 trays, ( food snob alert 🙈) when home in Stroud I shop in waitrose and if I buy eggs they come in trays of 9 and also four, which I think is ace so these were made for all you anti dozen egg buyers! and the four ones are really bloody cute. Also if your a veggie or vegan no worries, I’ve kept my lemons 🍋 and limes in mine this week, could also accommodate plums and Kiwi 🥝 if your partial to the exotic 😁. . . . #egg #eggtray #handbuiltpottery #slabrolled #kitchenwares #handbuiltceramics #happypotter #ceramics #pottery #design #rustic #rustickitchen #terracotta #artist #creative #craft

Cone 5 here we come! Swipe for some spoilers on some new designs. I had reached a point last year where I was not liking what I was making. I found myself just throwing pieces on the wheel to try new forms, and master throwing (which let's be honest, takes years and years). I realized that I lost myself in trying to master something, I forgot all other aspects of creativity, and I started disliking my results. This, for someone who wants to make pottery for a living, who wants to share the beauty in handmade goods, personal touch, and show the world the inspiration I feel, was very disheartening. I decided to unplug from the wheel and get back to hand building, my first true love. I also decided to adventure into my darker gothic side, and explore the forms I found myself searching for in my home, things I wanted, in a style I can't buy anywhere. You can see a few of these in the pics, the mini coffin shaped boxes and the oujia board planchette 🖤 But then I even got bored after glazing all my new designs, and when I got back to my wheel thrown pieces, I was drawn back to the same ol' thang. As seen in my previous posts, I tailored to my bright, colorful, rainbow loving side and got a little crazy with the color! 🌈 I guess what I'm trying to say is that I feel like my heart wasn't in it for a bit, and I think I found it again. I look forward to developing this even more, adding more complicated and thoughtful components to my pieces, and creating work I love to share with you all. I hope you love it too. What does your heart need? Are you listening to it, or just getting caught in the current of every day? Take a moment and think to yourself. I'd love to hear what you discover ✌️ #cone5 #spoileralert #alwaysgrowing #alwaysroomforimprovement #honorwhatbringsjoy #backtomyroots #handbuiltpottery #goth #gothgirl #blackisthenewblack #iloverainbows #rainbows #neoncolors #putyourheartintoit #listentoyourheart #dontbeboring #findyourself #whoknewpotterycouldbesodeep
