I have removed all the unhealthy food from my house... it was delicious 😜 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After a fun weekend of celebrating birthdays and Fathers Day (and allll the food) this girl is ready to get back on track! I used to beat myself up about weekends like this and say to myself, “Well I might as well give up because I messed up.” 🙈 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But I’ve come to realize that a fitness journey is not meant to be perfect! It’s meant to challenge and change you. So that you can look back at the person you used to be and see how far you’ve come. It’s about moving forward, no matter how small a step, despite the setbacks. Because there WILL be setbacks. That’s just life 🤷🏻‍♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So if you feel bad about what you ate over the weekend, just remember that today is a NEW day. You don’t have to let that SETBACK make you TURN BACK to your old ways. Instead, let that SETBACK turn into a COMEBACK 👊🏼✨

What caused my hormone imbalance?⁣⁣⁣? ⁣⁣⁣ Well lemme publicly embarrass myself 🙃 it was a lot, but my naturopathic doctor & I figured out it was mainly a combo of:⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ❌ S T R E S S⁣ ⁣ I can’t stress this one enough 🌝 the stress of college and then I graduated, didn’t have a “real” job, and started to travel with Grant which meant leaving my house, leaving Otis with my parents, and leaving my routine all together. All while starting to prep like wow great idea Sami!!⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ❌ Not eating enough⁣ ⁣ I ate ENOUGH (above my BMR), but was always in a deficit. I knew I needed to eat more but I couldn’t practice what I was preaching to my clients because I wasn’t happy with myself. I wanted to be leaner before upping my food but I just couldn’t lean out⁣ ⁣ ❌ Over-exercising, prep, not listening to my body⁣ ⁣ Rest days? Grant always told me I needed one and I knew how important they are. But I felt like it was letting a day slip by when I could be working towards my goals. I thought lifting 6x + 30 mins of stairs 7x/week made me like super healthy and disciplined when in reality I was overworking my body, not letting it recover, and adding more stress to it⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ❌ Senna AKA laxatives⁣ ⁣ Yep I just went there. I’m cringing too. My first prep coach (2014) had me take senna, a “mild laxative” to “detox my body” every night – I was clueless about competing and he has ALL the credentials, so I trusted him. YEARS later and I couldn’t shake the senna tablets no matter how hard I tried- they were a mental and physical crutch. He made me feel like I NEEDED them to be healthy and lean.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ The years of senna alone are why I had more bad guy bacteria than good and tiny little holes lining my intestines causing my food to not be fully utilized⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ The “healthy, good for you” things that I was doing were actually causing more harm than good AKA the whole “too much of a good thing can even be bad”⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ These were MY biggest factors. This isn’t a recipe for a hormone imbalance. Everyone’s different. Imbalances can vary with different people and seasons of life. But if you feel like something’s off - trust your gut! YOU know YOUR body better than anyone else! ☀️

your house might begin to smell like heaven 10 mins into baking... and it’ll have been brought to you by this chunky banana tahini granola 🤫🤤 — vegan-friendly, oil & dairy free with a protein boost! DRY 4c organic rolled oats 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2c chopped walnuts 1/4c pumpkin seeds 3 tbsp @soluxe_protein plant protein + prebiotics WET 3 small ripe bananas 1/4c tahini 1/4c maple syrup 1 tbsp macadamia (or other nut) milk for more moisture if needed Preheat oven to 180c. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl and set aside. Mash bananas in a separate bowl, then add tahini, nut milk & maple syrup and mix well until no chunks are left. Combine and fold wet & dry ingredients together. Transfer to pan lined with baking sheet and bake for 35-40 mins or until golden brown. Mix granola halfway through baking for best results!

Same-zies, I make him pose so I can show him off and celebrate how far hes come. He may or may not love that I'm sharing this, but he was having to wear a belt with these shorts to keep them buttoned. . I also made him do a no belt wearing dance after this photo, but we'll save that for another post.😉 . In a few days we should know if his diabetes was misdiagnosed as type 2 vs type 1. . Either way we still plan to continue on this journey to make sure we are both doing our best to keep up with our kids and all their energy.

Struggling is not synonymous with weakness and I often need this reminder as much as the next person. We tend to be our own worst critics thinking it will force us into a better version of ourselves. It won’t. We are meant to struggle. We are meant to fail. We are meant to fall short over and over again. It means we are living and embracing the opportunities of our own unique life. It means we are pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zones and preconceived rules and restrictions. Maybe you are struggling with an external force, or maybe you are struggling to quiet the deafening thoughts and feelings of inadequacy. I will not tell you to stop nor will I tell you to think happy thoughts. What I will say is this: feel it all and use it. Use the pain and suffering. Use the heartache and defeat. Use it in such a way that you have no choice but to shine as bright as you can. Be the person who you need most. Allow yourself to fall apart, but never forget that you can be put back together in whatever way you desire 🦋💫

Been thinkin’ a lot about my body lately. 🤗 _ Truth be told, I was going to post an old gym pic today but wow, NONE of the pics I used to be so proud of feel like “me” anymore. That old version of myself never felt comfortable in her skin. I went to the gym to feed my compulsive desire to look/be/feel different. Exercise was a kind of purgatory - a consequence for eating “too much” or the “wrong thing.” I was never the fastest or the strongest or the prettiest or the skinniest so I NEVER felt good ENOUGH. _ Then I got pregnant and talk about putting the ego in check! Working out like that, binging and purging, battling with myself over how I looked - I had to release each of those things. My body was no longer my own and honestly, none of those things mattered anymore. I remember watching my stomach expand and being so worried about stretch marks and “losing my abs” and “being fat.” I wasted sooo much energy on that nonsense. _ I got back to my pre-pregnancy weight in 6 weeks. I was wearing my old clothes within 2 months. Now at 9 months post partum, I’m actually 10# LESS than I was before I got pregnant. My body has recovered and in many ways, it has improved. I love my body more now than I ever have in my life. All because I released this incessant need to work out, lift more, run more, starve more and sweat more - I have the body of my dreams. My stomach and arms are defined, my skin is clear and I feel fucking GOOD! And it didn’t come from CrossFit or a crazy strict diet. It came from eating real foods, going on long walks, some runs, and dancing. 💃🏻 _ It’s amazing what can happen when you release control, surrender, and detach from the outcome. Maybe everything you think you’re doing to “help” yourself is really hurting you. Maybe, just maybe, there is a better way. 💕 #SelfLove #BodyPositive #Surrender
