. GOOD FOOD. GOOD STATE OF MIND. . Just a little more than a year ago, the stress I’ve endured today would have had me making nachos and chocolate cake, with a side of the most sinful ice cream I could find. . You know that feeling? Calling on your best friend (food) to make it all better. . But it doesn’t get better, does it? I mean, in the moment it does when the dopamine kicks in as you binge. But how about after? . I don’t know about you but I always felt worse, almost like I could immediately feel my body succumbing to the fat and sugar I just filled it with. And then the guilt. Oh, man, the guilt. . Portion control has given me the gift of just that...CONTROL. Not only did I learn how to adjust my portions, I also learned how having control over that one tiny corner of my life spilled over into the rest of my life. . To say this program saved my sanity is no exaggeration. I’m a different person. My chaos remains the same. But I deal with those stressors that are out of my control in a productive way. . Made turnip fries last evening. After much trial and error I found that the secret is to boil them AFTER cutting them into fries for at least 10 minutes or until fork goes through, then put butter or whatever oil you prefer over them and desired seasoning (I used pink salt, mrs dash, garlic powder and Parmesan). Then finally put them in the oven at 400 for about 15 min. I used confection setting, otherwise you’ll probably need to flip them. I dipped them in mayo.
