"Fontaine Amédée Pichot" 🧡⛲️💐Location: Arles - FRANCE 🇫🇷 The fountain was built by Pierre-Amédée Pichot between 1884 and 1887. He decided to build this memorial on behalf of the friendship between his father (Amédée Pichot - journalist and bibliophile) and the painter Paul Balze. Balze exhibited in a Parisian salon one of his works, representing an allegory of poetry (inspired by Raphaello). Pierre-Amédée acquired it. He wanted to donate it to the Arles city, but the city council couldn't find any location to enhance the work. He decided to build the monument himself, buying a house at the corner of a street. The work was entrusted to Augustus Veran, in collaboration with Paul's brother Raymond, who was a painter too. The fountain is located at 28 rue Voltaire. Access is from the northern gate of Arles, called Porte de la Cavalerie. "Ponte Vecchio, Florence”🧡💛💐 – ITALY 🇮🇹 The Ponte Vecchio is a medieval stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge over the Arno River, in Florence, Italy, noted for still having shops built along it, as was once common. Butchers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewelers, art dealers and souvenir sellers. The Ponte Vecchio's two neighbouring bridges are the Ponte Santa Trinita and the Ponte alle Grazie. History and construction The bridge spans the Arno at its narrowest point where it is believed that a bridge was first built in Roman times, when the via Cassia crossed the river at this point. The Roman piers were of stone, the superstructure of wood. The bridge first appears in a document of 996. After being destroyed by a flood in 1117 it was reconstructed in stone but swept away again in 1333 save two of its central piers, as noted by Giovanni Villani in his Nuova Cronica. It was rebuilt in 1345. Giorgio Vasari recorded thetraditional view of his day that attributed its design to Taddeo Gaddi — besides Giotto one of the few artistic names of the trecento still recalled two hundred years later. Modern historians present Neri di Fioravanti as a possible candidate. Sheltered in a little loggia at the central opening of the bridge is a weathered dedication stone, which once read Nel trentatrè dopo il mille-trecento, il ponte cadde, per diluvio dell' acque: poi dieci anni, come al Comun piacque, rifatto fu con questo adornamento. The Torre dei Mannelli was built at the southeast corner of the bridge to defend it.The bridge consists of three segmental arches: the main arch has a span of 30 meters (98 feet) the twoside arches each span 27 meters (89 feet). The rise of the arches is between 3.5 and 4.4 meters (11½ to14½ feet), and the span-to-rise ratio 5:1.1 (From Wikipedia) #pontevecchio #hello_worldpics #tv_landscapes #map_of_europe #map_of_italy #tripadvisor #travel_drops #bbc_travel #ig_dynamic #ig_serenity #igpowerclub #creartmood #loves_europe #loves_united_europe #kings_villages #ig_livorno_ #ig_fotografdiyari #ig_skysun #igs_europe #igs_world #ig_fotograflar #italia_cartoline #super_italia_channel #ig_italy #igersmood #canon6d

“Church of St. Stephan”💙💛💒🌷 Baden bei Wien - AUSTRIA 🇦🇹 The church St. Stephan is a Catholic church in Baden in Lower Austria. The official name is Stadtpfarrkirche St. Stephan (municipal parish church). The present building began in Gothic style in the 15th century. It was remodeled Baroque in the 17th century, and an attempt made to restore Gothic features from 1880. The church has a notable organ, played by Mozart and probably also Beethoven. Mozart's motet Ave verum corpus was premiered in St. Stephan in 1791. The church is a registered monument and an active parish church. History The present building was begun c. 1400. A choir in Gothic style was built on the foundation of a Romanesque apsis. The nave was built in the second half of the 15th century, using the older walls. At the same time, the main steeple was built. Some epitaphs from the Renaissance were installed at columns in the church. The onion dome was added in 1697. As the church was badly damaged during Ottoman wars, its interior was changed to Baroque style, installing several altars. The new Hochaltar (high altar) in the choir with a painting by Paul Troger showing the stoning of St. Stephan. During the 18th century, some side altars were added, including the Sebastianaltar which was dedicated by the Baden citizens in 1731 to fight the plague. The Baroque furniture of the sacristy (Sakristeischrank) dates to 1743. In 1880, the church interior was again changed, aiming at a revival of Gothic elements. The main altar was replaced by today's in 1893, while its painting was installed above an exit. A postage stamp was issued in 2012 to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the parish. “The front door of the Cathedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore”💒🌷 Florence – ITALY 🇮🇹 (🏛UNESCO World Heritage Site) Florence Cathedral, formally the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore (IEnglish: "Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower"), is the cathedral of Florence, Italy (Italian: Duomo di Firenze). It was begun in 1296 in the Gothic style to a design of Arnolfo di Cambio and was structurally completed by 1436, with the dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. The exterior of the basilica is faced with polychrome marble panels in various shades of green and pink, bordered by white, and has an elaborate 19th-century Gothic Revival façade by Emilio De Fabris. The cathedral complex, in Piazza del Duomo, includes the Baptistery and Giotto's Campanile. These three buildings are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site covering the historic centre of Florence and are a major tourist attraction of Tuscany. The basilica is one of Italy's largest churches, and until the development of new structural materials in the modern era, the dome was the largest in the world. It remains the largest brick dome ever constructed. The cathedral is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Florence, whose archbishop is currently Giuseppe Betori. Exterior Plan and structure Plan of the church with various extension phases The cathedral of Florence is built as a basilica, having a wide central nave of four square bays, with an aisle on either side. The chancel and transepts are of identical polygonal plan, separated by two smaller polygonal chapels. The whole plan forms a Latin cross. The nave and aisles are separated by wide pointed Gothic arches resting on composite piers. The dimensions of the building are enormous: building area 8,300 square metres (89,340 square feet), length 153 metres (502 feet), width 38 metres (125 feet), width at the crossing 90 metres (300 feet). The height of the arches in the aisles is 23 metres (75 feet). The height of the dome is 114.5 metres (375.7 feet). (From Wikipedia)
