I am not an ex dancer, a former gymnast, an athlete. I was never into sports and started yoga relatively unfit. It's easy to compare myself to people with an incredible awareness of their own body, with a movement practice beyond what I could ever hope to achieve in this lifetime. Camel Pose, and backbends like it, can be physically challenging and beneficial. Emotionally, they can create a sense of vulnerability we usually shy away from. Ustrasana, like a camel journeying through the Sahara, requires stamina, endurance, and a commitment to inner awareness. I was always fascinated by the process of creating. ❤ I used to paint when I was young. 🖌I wasn't particularly awesome at it, but I loved the process. ❤ I've envisioned how the painting it's going to look like and I got it the zone, flow of creating what I've imagined.🖌 I often lost track of time, I wasn't hungry or thirsty I was in the creative flow. ❤ That feeling is beautiful but I haven't experienced it in a long time. ❤ Actually since my kids were born. 👭 No wonder why. 🤔 Too many things is on my mind, to many things to take care of on a daily basis. ❤ I can't afford to lose track of time anymore. •• What makes you feel like the best version of yourself? •• . . . On our travels you can usually find me somewhere in the airport doing yoga. Once I got over my initial fear and did it last year- it’s one of my favorite things to do. I love practicing somewhere busy, and experiencing how it all fades away. It’s easy to practice in a silent room, that’s beautifully lit, while being guided by a teacher. It’s harder to practice when you have people all around you, noises coming from all directions, and no guide but yourself. . . . Recently I feel so very reflective. You may not assume this, but I struggle with social interactions, especially in a group of my peers. I question myself, I can take things personally, and I can be pretty self conscious. I can feel awkward which means I’ll be quiet, and then everything gets more awkward. It’s taken A LOT of intentional work to become more social. When I practice yoga though, all of that anxiety and doubt seems to vanish. I become so present, so confident and at ease with myself and my body. A thousand people could watch, and I would be fine. I could laugh at myself if I fucked up, I could move and inspire them if given an hour of their time. Where is this part of me when I enter a group setting of my peers? Where is this part of me when I get annoyed, or tired, or feel attacked? Where is this person? This is who I really am. This is the best version of me, but she hides away sometimes. . . . I am thankful for the art of movement, because it was through this that I first connected with this version of myself. I am grateful for a lifetime to explore it, and in the process to step fully into that more vulnerable part of myself, even when I’m not flowing or working out. The self I meet here is my favorite one. Had I never found yoga, the entire course of my life and who I become would be different. This journey never ends- and I look forward to continue to peel back the layers of myself and step more fully into my authenticity. I’d love to know what YOU love. ᵂᴱᴿᴮᵁᴺᴳ I didn’t feel well for the last few days, I might have caught something that has given me a heavy headache and fatigue but I am starting to feel better today. So after a long physical yoga pause now (because of traveling and not feeling well) I finally was on my mat again today and after some warmup I worked on what I love most. Any guesses?? 😆 #inversionjunkie 🙋‍♀️ . As I haven’t shared so much of my “real” inversion practice here lately in terms of videos, I thought I’d share a bit of it today. . Currently, I love to work a lot on backbending in inversions as I get to work on both things simultaneously plus I love how much conscious control and core strength is needed for the backbends upside down. . ⁉️Tight lats⁉️⠀ ⠀ 💪 The latissimus dorsi is the main worker bee for aerialists, pole dancers, gymnasts, and many other upper extremity dominant athletes. Many of us are in the habit of stretching our lats after training, but often we don’t take into account our LAT ANATOMY when we stretch! Swipe 👉 to see a photo of the lat muscles, and take special note of where they ORIGINATE: our pelvis, sacrum, and lumbar spine (low back)!!⠀ ⠀ 🍑 SO: although we can go deeper into the stretch if we let our back arch and our butt stick out (anterior pelvic tilt), we are effectively putting the origin of the lats on SLACK and therefore shifting the focus of the stretch AWAY from the lats. WHICH IS TOTALLY FINE if you’re looking for a non-specific shoulder and upper back stretch, but if we’re trying to focus the stretch to our lats, we MUST keep our back neutral/slightly rounded and our pelvis TUCKED into a posterior pelvic tilt. ⠀ ⠀ 📝 KEY POINTS for stretching your lats as demonstrated in the BOTTOM photo:⠀ ⠀ ✅ keep your low back ROUNDED, not arched at ALL (if your back arches, the ORIGIN of the lats (your lumbar spine) comes closer to the INSERTION (your shoulder) and therefore puts the lats on SLACK, which decreases the specificity of this stretch.⠀ ✅ RIBS IN! TAIL TUCKED! Remember, that posterior pelvic tilt is what keeps the lats on STRETCH.⠀ ✅ Shoulders shrugged/elevated (like in a handstand), NOT down and back! (Read more about WHY in a blog post that I’ll link in my story!)⠀⠀ ✅ Slowly sink chest until you feel a nice stretch in your armpit, back of your shoulder/shoulderblade, or side body. ⠀⠀ ⠀ ‼️NOTE: you should feel this stretch in the bulk of muscle under your armpit or along the side/back of your ribcage. You should NOT feel this stretch on TOP of your shoulder, or along your anterior deltoid/biceps tendon, or pinching ANYWHERE.
