Try this quick hip mobility drill before your next lower body workout 🏋️‍♀️ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ You use your hip internal rotators to walk, run, squat, crouch, and crawl. Weak/inflexible internal rotation of your hip can lead to low back and hip pain. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Keep your hips healthy with this quick little drill:⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Exercise #1 - Hip swivels x 6-8 reps per side ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Exercise #2 - Foot weighted hip push downs x 30-60 seconds per side⁣⁣⁣ (let the foot and gravity do the work in bringing the knee down) ⁣⁣⁣ Do both exercises to point of tension. Do⁣⁣⁣ Not go past your range of motion and stop before you feel pain. *SPINE WORK* ----- Neglecting movement in this area can lead to.a host of problems. Poor posture, weakness / stiffness, crappy joint health etc. All of the above can then manifest in other areas. Common one being poor shoulder health. ------- Here is what I have been doing EVERY MORNING to fix and forever prevent. Intentionally moving my spine in what most know as "cat cow", controlling each vertebrae at a time. As you can see I dont possess full control yet, T-spine is a sucky area for me, no surprise here though. Years of getting there will not magically disappear over night. ----------- How doing this has helped me⬆️; ----------- ⭕ Waking me up! This will fire the CNS and have you moving better everywhere. ⭕ Better EVERYDAY posture. It can be easy to bypass exercise and healthier cooking due to time constraints in the week. I used to easily make excuses because I was too tired or couldn’t be bothered to multitask. These days, I use my time efficiently and with thought because a healthier lifestyle is so important to me and gives me so much. Tonight was a key example. It’s Monday. It’s been a long day. My days begin when my alarm goes off at 5.35am. I came home tonight and popped my lycra straight on before I sat down. Prepped a healthy and simple dins. Popped the footie on which I really wanted to watch tonight. Then did my core leg workout whilst dins was cooking, and watching the footie. I was happy. I’m making use of my time to benefit my mind and body, and to feel more relaxed after a busy day. The overall effect of keeping active regularly often means you feel less tired in life generally, even when you have busy days. Fuelling your body well and moving it often have such positive and long term benefits for your health and well-being. Dins was simple and quick. • Honey glazed salmon • Sweet potato wedges cooked in olive oil with feta cheese and fresh rosemary • Cooked cherry tomatoes and button mushrooms • Chickpeas on a bed of spinach • Bowl of greens 😋 • A dollop of Greek yoghurt I managed to smile my way through the b*stard wall sits and my crush on Gareth Southgate grows 😍🤣 You can always make time to eat well and move your body. 👉Do your hip flexors pinch when in the bottom of your squat? ⠀ ⠀ Chances are that your adductor muscles are tight. These muscles run along your inner thigh and function to stabilize your body and to pull your legs together. ⠀ —⠀ When your adductors are tight it compromises your hips and lower back, causing them to stiffen and ache.⠀ —⠀ Open up your hips with these two basic adductor stretches:⠀ 1️⃣Rocking frog stretch: widen your knees to mimic your squat stance. Then rock back and forth while keeping your back straight.⠀ -⠀ 2️⃣Single-leg adductor stretch: Extend your leg to the side with your heel in line with your other knee. Have you ever had a MRI done and then started having pain? . In this first #educationalexcerpt I would like to cover advanced imaging in relation to body pain. Many patients come in having obtain imaging with a result, not knowing what it means. Most findings on advanced imaging can be associated to NORMAL AGE CHANGES, think internal gray hairs. Differences side to side can be normal that often reflect your life story. We will go into each in further detail, but the highlights can be seen here. . ¤1 patient had 10 MRIs performed and no two results were the same (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=27867079) . ¤"Positive findings" tend to be found more as we age in the normal adult population (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=Management+of+Low+Back+Pain+campbell+colvin) . ¤"Disc degeneration” can often be seen in the neck of asymptomatic individuals in their 20s. One study found disc degeneration in 98% of painfree subjects. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25929205) . ¤Disc herniations CAN HEAL without surgery (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27096582) Does this mean we should never have advanced imaging? NO. It can help you or your healthcare provider understand how many “gray hairs” you have and how these are affecting your daily function. Hemiparesis is the weakness of one entire side of the body, the most common cause of which is stroke. There is plentiful research examining the outcome of conventional stroke rehabilitation programs (typically a combination of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech & language therapy, and assistive technology). However, there has been no research investigating the longitudinal effect of daily stretching in the same subject population.⁣ ⁣ This study looked at what changes occurred when stroke patients with chronic hemiparesis performed stretches of the calf muscles (soleus and medial gastrocnemius) every day for a year in additional to conventional therapy.⁣ ⁣ The results showed significant increases in soleus and gastrocnemius fascicle length, soleus thickness, soleus and gastrocnemius passive muscle extensibility, and walking speed for the self-stretching group compared to the conventional rehabilitation-only group.⁣ ⁣ The outcome of this study should make therapists give serious consideration to prescribing daily stretching as part of stroke management plans. It also demonstrates mechanical adaptations to chronic stretching, disproving recent notions that adaptations to stretch are purely neural in nature. It also rubbishes claims that only active stretching methods are effective for increasing ROM (exercises utilising voluntary muscular contractions). The inclusion of regular static stretching will benefit healthy people too.

I try to have my class perform a number of floor exercises. Just to get them more comfortable getting up off the floor, learn how to hold and distribute your weight while on floor, and since most of my clients work in an office, working out on the floor provided grip(hand/wrist) strength. . . . 🔹Movement 1 supine chest fly’s.
