💪🏼💜✨C O N S I S T E N C Y✨💚✌🏻 . . I don’t work out for hours a day. Literally, it’s rare I get a full hour in during a day. Most of my workouts are 30-45 minutes and maybe an evening walk with my family. In the picture on the left, I thought I would have to delicate my life to working out and didn’t think I could do anything that would make a difference. I never thought I could do it. I still see many women on Instagram posting their extensive workouts and talking about hours in the gym. I can’t do that. And I don’t. It’s not feasible with my work schedule and my family life—and I know that’s so true for many of us. I want you all to know that my changes came with two things—consistency over time and proper nutrition. I have done home workouts with simple equipment for the last two years. I occasionally make it to the gym, but maybe 4-5 times a month which takes the place of my home workout. I use the #studiotoneitup app which has been amazing. I’ve also learned that you can’t out exercise a bad diet. You might look ok on the outside, but you’re not reaching your full potential with your health. I want you to realize that your 20-30 minutes you’ve given to yourself today is not worthless. Last week I was asked, why do you workout daily but your muscles don't grow 😅 I don't take offense to it and I don't think the person probably meant any🤷 but it struck me as an odd thing to ask and really made me think about progress and goals in general. Honestly I don't really have a big asthetic goal. For over a year I have either been pregnant or somewhat newly postpartum and I made the conscious decision while pregnant that [my focus would be on feel strong and being consistent rather than looking a certain way.] I'm not really a person that makes goals based on asthetic stuff anyways, I've found with myself and past clients a lot of times it ends up being discouraging rather than motivating because we just look for that one physical outcome. We ignore how good we feel, how strong we feel or how energized we are as a result of our efforts because we don't see our goal yet. Anyways, the main two things I really want to share here are: 1. Don't let other people's judgement of your efforts affect how you feel about yourself or your goals. It doesn't have to work for them, it has to work for you. 2. Working out doesn't have to be about looking like a some certain ideal. Let it be about improving your quality of life, your health, how you feel, what you can do, etc. This is something that has soo helped me stay consistent! #YouGotThis

I've never shared transformation pictures before. I've always had horrible self image, but I'm finally excited about my results. The girl in the top two pictures is a 3 month postpartum mama with some pretty bad anxiety and lack of sleep. The girl in the bottom two pictures is a girl at 5 months postpartum (via c-section). Holy sh** you can see a little bit of abs! Exercise has helped with both anxiety and sleep, and my cardio has greatly improved. Over the weekend, I also hit a new PR for deadlifts which was higher than my PR 2 years ago. But, now that I’m nearing the end of my long, rigorous training, I’ve realized that authority with age is unacceptable. It’s a difficult thing for many of us to see young females as the figure of authority. It’s been ingrained in us since we were kids. It’s amazing how often I enter a room with a male medical student and the patient looks to him for the answers. This use to offend me, but now I find it somewhat entertaining. It’s the moment that I step in and clarify the diagnosis and plan that I become the figure of authority. It’s the knowledge and confidence that we hold that gives us the authority. It’s the way we carry ourselves that provokes respect. As women in leadership, it is our responsibility to carry ourselves with confidence, grace, and humility. Just like we were subconsciously taught as children our current biases, we are responsible for setting the example for the next generation. Wear you proudly 👩🏼‍⚕️✌🏻 . . Sean watched the kids while I worked out today. I did deadlifts, shoulder press, modified pull-ups, zercher squats, and lateral arm raises. It was a good workout. And I deadlifted 135 lbs which is a new PR. I felt amazing, I’ll tell you what! I also am noticing more definition in my legs, glutes, and arms & shoulders. I also saw some new muscle definition in my back which was exciting. 😀

🔥⛓ Emily In Chains ⛓🔥 Tonight’s leg day was focused on chain squats. Here I did: 1x8-10reps @ 140lbs (not shown) 1x6-8reps @ 160lbs (not shown) 1x6reps @ 180lbs 1x4-6reps @ 200lbs 1x1-2reps @ 220lbs 1x1 rep@ 240lbs (Each set of chains weighed 45lbs) I’ve been implementing different styles of squats lately to improve my technique and gain more strength. Squatting with chains has many benefits: 1. improves your bar speed As you stand up, the weight of the chains is re-applied to the bar, so you better focus on getting up fast to “outrun” the chains. 2. Improves core and trunk stability As you walk out, the chains are whipping you all over the place and this is an extremely effective way to train the core and trunk. 3. Improves squat technique squatting with chains gave me a better idea to where my body was in space. If I leaned forward at all, I could tell immediately that my line was off. 4.
