Meet Stephanie (left) and Jess (right) 🤓. They're friends who met through being involved in their kids school's parents groups. This is their first time working out together. They are both very funny, so we were laughing during every break during the session. I have them both do one lighter, movement/functional strength based session and one heavier, movement/functional strength based session a week. Strength without mobility, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility is not nearly as useful as when you have those things. Stephanie has been with me longer and is fitter while Jess is newer but the more naturally athletic. They both run and play tennis, so they have an outlet to assess the improvements in their fitness. Those are my favorite types of clients! When they're active you don't have to say anything because they typically have good body awareness and can explain in detail when they experience a difference in their performance. Inactive people are often only concerned with aesthetics and weight loss which is fine but my passion is improving the whole of a person. Looking good and being lean while moving like shit and tiring easily is not my idea of being fit. Eat clean, rest well, get sufficient sleep and manage your stress and you will look better and lose weight no matter how you train. So why not train to function at a higher level as a human being in all aspects of life? 🤔 Anyone who has played as many sports competitively as I have knows very well that looking like a Lamborghini while performing like a Hugo/Smart Car is beyond embarrassing. Prioritize building GO muscles over SHOW muscles 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 . . . . . .

I started in the world of fitness as a group exercise instructor. Back then, it was all about the exercise. I took my first Personal Training client in 2005. I took an online certification and a weekend training, left teaching with no income, other than a few Body Combat and Body Attack classes, and parked my ass at Lifestyle Family Fitness for 12-14 hours a day. I thought I would be the best trainer ever! No one worked out as much as me or loved working out as much as me. ... I greeted every single person who walked through those doors and within a week I had my first client. He was a mess. Two shoulder surgeries, low back pain, and desperately out of shape. I had absolutely no idea what to do with him. None. I went home that night and cried. My weekend certification did not prepare me for this! This man was in pain and he was counting on me to do something more than blow a whistle and show him one of my super cool workouts. I had two days until I saw him again and I could not let him down. Could not. .... That first client was a big awakening and a harsh introduction to the phrase "as the lake of knowledge increases, so does the shore of ignorance." I was ignorant. Mr. John was patient and encouraging. He would tell me he trusted me to find the knowledge and lead him. He gave me such a gift ♥️ .... Today, 14 years later, a Master's Degree, a Holistic Nutrition two year course, countless weekend continuing education, shelves upon shelves of books, and hundreds of clients later.... I still think of Mr John and I still remember that the people who walk through these doors are all seeking help....answers. Rarely do they actually need that super cool exercise that looks so good on a video. As for us, we'll never stop seeking the latest knowledge in order to better serve #thetribe 💪

A simple shoulder warm up I like to use with clients. . . This is really useful as an activation before you lift any weights in the gym. And especially good for getting some control and movement in and around the shoulder blades. . . If you have followed me for a while you will know how much of an advocate of shoulder health I am. . . If you are an office worker I can guarantee that you will have tightness and limitations through the mid part of your back. . .
