Choosing not to experience pain, anger, or other intense feelings could cause them to become buried deep into our physical body. Throughout our lives, we may experience emotions that disturb us. Often, our first reaction is to push our feelings away. Choosing not to experience pain, anger, or other intense feelings could cause those feelings to become buried deep into our physical body. There, they may linger unresolved and unable to emerge, even as they affect the way we experience the world. Allowing ourselves to experience all of our emotions rather than push the more painful ones away can help us come to terms with our feelings so we can experience them and then move on. It is possible to bring forth the old feelings we have pushed aside and experience them in a safe and enriching way. It may sound silly to set aside time to feel our old wounds that we haven't dealt with, but this can be a very beneficial healing experience. Once we have triggered our long-denied emotions, we have to let ourselves feel our feelings, and try not to judge our reactions. Cry or sound our emotions if we need to, and don't block the flow of our feelings. Allowing any thoughts that are connected to our emotions to surface. As we release the feelings we have pushed inside of ourselves, we will find ourselves healing from the experience associated with these emotions. When we deal with our feelings directly, they can move through us rather than staying stopped up in our body as emotional blocks that can sometimes turn into disease. When students walk through our doors for the first times, sometimes they bring more than their mat!! 😢 They have injuries, painful or debilitating conditions, aches and pains, weakness and stresses, and it saddens us greatly to hear their horror stories!!😖 So many students complain that they have had experiences sometime over their life, where Pilates or yoga has injured them, made their existing conditions worse😳 or left them feeling defeated and broken!!!😥 . I thought I’d do little Transformation Tuesday post from 2017 and my attempt at a forward fold vs last week. I began my yoga journey 2 years ago this month and it’s radically changed my flexibility and how I feel about my body. I’ve always been inflexible and felt totally uncoordinated, I’d hit a wall with progress at pole and could barely touch my toes. I started off practicing one hour a week, working up to 4-6 hours a week and I feel completely different. I’m so much stronger as well as more flexible, I’m learning all the time, seeing constant improvement as I develop my practice. Yoga is such a holistic experience that goes beyond how bendy you can become, although it’s a pretty rad side effect! The breathing, the meditation and taking time for me gives me a small piece of calm that I need in my busy life. It’s the one thing I can be bothered to do when I don’t want to do anything else, I actually love it. I didn’t take any pics of my inflexible ass at the start other than at pole so it’s a bit of vertical yoga here... but the improvement is crazy. If you’re thinking about giving yoga a go I urge you to go, it’ll change you life, I promise! #shoulderopener I use a strap to train my shoulder. Starting from holding the strap as far as we are comfortable, then try shifting the hand narrower. And do it 5 times. Inhale bring your hands over your head & exhale, hands down behind your back. Inhale goes up to the head and the exhale goes down to the neutral position in front of you, do 5 counts for each motion. You can see in my video. Do it not in a hurry. For me this exercise really helped me to release the tension in my shoulder & avoid us from frozen shoulder later on.
