When I’m travelling I still try and get a workout in. Little known fact... I actually used to be really into lifting heavy! I had a PT who rocked my life and kept me going. I quit when I got an offer to work abroad and it’s still my #1 biggest regret. I was at my healthiest and happiest lifting big and maybe shutting down some haters. #truth OrangeTheory is my go-to abroad as there are so many. The downside tho? They don’t have international memberships so every single time, I have to sign as a new member and it’s frustrating!!! I’ve now “been a member” in 6 different studios in the last 2 years. Come on @orangetheory it’s time - international memberships for digital nomads need to be a thing!!! Yesterday was such a cool day...⁣ We had meetings all morning and then the opportunity to throw down with my favorite humans and work on some technique with @meghanduncan_ @courtyquiiiinn ⁣ ⁣ We worked our way up to a heavy single and then crushed out 60 Clean & Jerks, alternating between @meghanduncan_ and I all the way through. ⁣ ⁣ We have been working so hard to get this new space ready to rock and roll 🎸 so it was the first time we have worked out at #HEFHQ and it felt SO good. Many people just don’t like the overhead squat. I personally LOVE IT. It uses soooo much of the body for this movement and takes time to get stronger on the movement because it is so dynamic. My first personal record attempt at 195lbs went too smooth, SO I went up to 205lbs and completed TWO! Don’t forget, I’ve had double lumbar fusion (L4/L5 & L5/S1) and cervical fusion (C5/C6). HOW TO ENJOY THE PROCESS . Weightlifting at times can be a mundane sport and most of the time, easily frustrating. But the boredom and frustrations arise from a lack of direction in focus. . In this society, our achievements are measured through the objective results we see. In Weightlifting this is often interpreted as the kilos we lift. . It's fun when winning or gaining more kilos on your lifts are achieved as your outcome. When that doesn't happen, you need to still be able to find the fun in your training. . Here are some ways to help you with that. . FOCUS ON THE PROCESS . As cliche as it may sound, understanding what to focus on in your training is harder than it seems. Most say they are focusing on their movements but eventually we are still driven up the numbers we hit or the number of reps we do. This is only a short-sighted view of success and gratification. By doing so, you actually end up not knowing what the outcome is. That's the true meaning of trusting the process. The change in your movement, you learn not to anticipate the result but to focus on what is needed to create or sustain change. The outcome is a good or satisfying lift. When that happens, it doesn't matter what kilos you lift, but the ease of the lift and movement. . CELEBRATE THE WINS . The wins in this case comes from a lift feeling good or easy, not just making a lift. Recognising that is important as you cherish the times when things go well. When things don't, you don't beat yourself up regarding it. . It is as simple as one focal point. If you have 12 reps in total and you can achieve that one focal point on your movement for all 12 reps, that's a win. Start by writing down one or two things to focus on before your session and be truthful at the end of the session on whether you achieved it for every single repetition. . SMILE . It is easy to lift with emotion and it's easier to let the wrong ones take over the session. By doing the points above, you are able to see positives which allows you to smile and be satisfied, regardless of the weight used for each session. More importantly, you walk away from the session feeling good and knowing you did right. . #sparkjoy
