I used to be scared that if I pushed my clients too hard that I’d lose them and end up broke. As I begin year two of my personal training career, I’ve learned that training your clients “too hard” is not really a thing as much as a poor diet, lack of rest and recovery and the failure to stretch/massage is on behalf of your clients. Now sure, brutally beating down a beginner is just wrong but for someone who has been training a few weeks, learn to hold the clients responsible and not beat yourself up for expecting more from them. Personally, Ive trained extremely hard 5/6/7 days a week over the past two years and maybe only faced 1-2 minor injuries myself. How? Because I use good form and do the other things required of me to stay on top of my game. So in my opinion, workout intensity is not the main issue with 99% of the people you’ll train. A client’s failure to eat, recover, stretch and sleep properly is going to be issue 9/10 times and may be why they decide to quit working with you and say “it’s too hard” (assuming you’re a good personal trainer and use solid principles). So, as I’ve matured and gotten better at my line of work, I have developed a very intuitive gauge with how much people can do and take physically. I can take anyone beyond their limitations and thresholds all while utilizing proper form and techniques - in order to maximize their physiques/overall performance. Of course I can tell my clients how to eat, sleep, recover, etc. But what I’ve found is that the ones who are the most coachable often make me question “Am I even pushing them hard enough?”. And when clients like this AND myself are both bringing the maximum intensity, transformations become possible. So never dim your light, under sell your services or sugar coat shit just because people cant meet the standards. We’re either chasing greatness or we’re not. Plain and simple! Don’t change your principles or ignore what you’ve learned to be true just to make some quick money. Work with people that inspire you. Do what you know works, help get them results and have faith that God will put the right type of clients in your life who want to be great - in all areas of their lives. 🔥
