| COACHING CUE | . “Imagine a wall in front of you” . When? To avoid swinging too far in front during kettlebell cleans . How? Note: This is a drill that can be done in front of an actual wall. . In order to keep the kettlebell from hitting the wall, the athlete will need to keep the elbow pinned against the body keeping the path vertical rather than a long arch. . Why? If the path of the kettlebell is a less efficient arch rather than a straight vertical path, it will likely result in the kettlebell crashing on the forearm. . I hope you found this valuable. The tips of your thumbs should touch the side of your thighs. . “The basic starting point for hand placement is approximately half a fist-width or slightly more outside the shoulders… With this hand placement, the bar will be in contact with the athlete’s UPPER THIGH when standing in the tall position.” - Greg Everett @catalystathletics in Olympic Weightlifting: A Complete Guide For Athletes and Coaches p.132 . 💥ENCOURAGE💥 I am sure we have all been told at some stage in our lives we CAN'T do something, we are not good enough, don't do that, settle for society's NORM . This may have been said to us at a young age by teachers, coaches, even close family members. What happens then.? .......... For many it can cause lifelong doubt in their own abilities, fear of getting uncomfortable and taking risks, and therefore settling for "the norm". They stop pursing their dream and no longer do that ONE thing that "makes them tick" and gives them purpose in life. However, there are others who do the opposite and use it as motivation to get where they want to go. ........... If this strikes a cord with you, I challenge you today to rekindle that flame and start doing that ONE thing your passionate about.
