Posted • @apolloperformancetherapy [Everybody is different.]⠀ ⠀ When you always look at the squat as a round hole, eventually you'll run into some square pegs. ⠀ ⠀ Every single person has different bone structure and alignment. If you try to teach everybody to squat in the exact same manner, you will run into some problems. ⠀ ⠀ The squat shouldn't be looked at as right or wrong, rather you should be viewing it in a way that allows you to individualize it for each person. ⠀ ⠀ There are some key points that I want to see in someone's squat, such as:⠀ - Maintain the same spinal position (or very close to) throughout the motion⠀ - Hip crease goes below the knee (when able)⠀ - Feet stay flat on the ground with no significant weight shift to any one side⠀ - Knees stay over top of or outside of the feet⠀ - Weight is centered over the middle of the foot⠀ ⠀ These are by no means exhaustive, or even what I am looking for in every single person. But these are some good starting points to work from. Notice that I didn't mention anything about how far to spread your feet, or how much to turn your feet out. This will vary based on how the hips are shaped, as well as what people are used to doing. ⠀ ⠀ If you are a coach, trainer, or healthcare provider that tries to make everyone's squat look a certain way....stop it. ⠀ ⠀ Respect the anatomy. Teach optimal for the person in front of you. It’s coming up to 10 months since the accident 😳 This image makes me so sad, it was taken about 2 months after the accident. I remember this day really well. My friend was wheeling me to a hospital appointment where my lawyers surgeon was assessing my leg for the court case against the other driver. He made me feel really shit, made my leg hurt, and I left his office thinking that I was never going to get better. I was a different person then. I hid a lot of my emotion, so people never really knew what I was thinking and just thought I was coping so well. Little did they know. A few things I’ve learnt in the last 10 months, is that you need to talk about what you’re going through, Its ok to cry and that people can’t always help but at least they are there to listen. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself that it’s going to be ok. That I’m going to get through it. That all I had to do was keep going. I still have a long way to go physically, and I continuously have a mental battle where I’m telling myself to just suck it up. It weirdly helps me and gives me a reality check when I think there’s people out there in a much worse situation than me. Every day is a blessing, so we should just enjoy living in the moment. Make each day count x

👉🏽 JÁ OUVIU FALAR EM OVERSTRIDING? ⠀ 🗣 O overstriding é o nome dado para a aterrissagem ao solo com o pé longe do centro de massa do corpo na corrida, ou seja, é quando a passada está larga demais. ⠀ ⠀ 📈 Uma das formas conhecidas para ajustar a passada larga é o aumento da cadência (mas não é a única!). Um estudo de 2015 verificou que a cada 10 passos aumentados por minuto, o overstriding reduz 5,9%. Tal diminuição faz as forças de frenagem e o impacto diminuírem, tornando a corrida mais otimizada e menos lesiva. ⠀ ▶️ Olhem no vídeo um exemplo de melhora do overstriding que fizemos aqui no @institutobiomech. De 23cm passamos para 17cm, o que ajudou consideravelmente nas dores e na performance deste corredor. ⠀⠀ ⚠️ Lembrando que essas mudanças sem uma avaliação e um treinamento adequados podem piorar dores e aumentar o cansaço. Tennis Shoulder part 5: Sleeper Stretch🛌 🎾 Sleeper Stretch is one of the most common exercise used to improve shoulder internal rotation ROM by stretching the external rotators of the shoulder called posterior cuff. If we look👀at this exercise from the side, it looks very simple, but there are a few details which can make sleeper much more effective. Let me take you through this exercise step by step👣(every step is illustrated in the pictures📸above). - STEP 1👣: if you want to stretch your right shoulder you need to lay down on your right side of the body. Why❓In this body position your scapula is in a stable position, because your bodyweight is pushing it into the floor, so we can be sure that it will not move during stretching. Legs should be flexed in knees and hips to 90 degree or extended in “V” shape. If you want to feel more comfortable🛋, just use something (foam roller) to support your head to avoid excessive neck muscles contraction. ⬇️ - STEP 2👣: By putting the towel under your front elbow you will be able to more isolate the stretching of infraspinatus muscle. Arm should be abducted to 90 degrees (or a bit less) with elbow flexed also to 90 degrees. ⬇️ - STEP 3👣: Roll your torso for approximately 20-30 degrees to the back – this body position place humerus in scapular plane what increase the posteriori cuff stretch and may minimalize the pain coming from lying directly over the shoulder (compression of the shoulder). ⬇️ - STEP 4: Place your free hand below the wrist of the stretched arm (don’t push your arm down by placing the force on the wrist or hand) and slightly let your arm come down to more internal rotation ROM. Remember about PROPER BREATHING🗣during this exercise, because our muscles RELAX during EXHALING.
