Hace un par de días una paciente con #dolorlumbar crónico, luego de realizar su sesión de movilidad dirigida me comentó: "nunca había podido llevar mis piernas tan alto" 💬. — Me sentí feliz. Pues soy de los que considero que el esfuerzo terapéutico debe estar dirigido a la persona, y no al hecho de #rehabilitar una patología o lesión. De hecho, no es necesario estar enfermo y/o lesionado para iniciar de programa de mejoramiento de las capacidades corporales. Independiente del profesional dedicado al movimiento que prescribe dicho programa. Pre-habilitar o simplemente #habilitar funciones y capacidades corporales es el trabajo de hormiguita que toda persona requiere para progresivamente mejorar su salud y calidad de vida. Todos ✔️, me incluyo y por suerte hoy día aplico lo que predico 🤓💯; deberíamos trabajar por mantener y/mejorar nuestras capacidades (calidad de movimiento, fuerza, resistencia, agilidad, potencia, ROM, flexibilidad, etc). Sin esperar presentar algún tipo de lesión o desventaja física. Struggling with squats? We get questions all the time on how to square better. There are many different components that need to work.... Technique ...poor technique can lead to back or knee pain. Functional ability...which men as can your body actually do it! Three main areas are potentially at fault. Ankle range If your ankles don't bend you can't squat correctly and we need to find out if it's a bony block or a soft tissue tightness issue. Knee tracking - poor knee tracking can make your knees hurt when you squat as can poor technique as using quads preferentially over hammies and glutes can compress the knee cap against the thigh bone giving pain Poor hip /pelvis movement..if you can't fully flex your hips without involving the pelvis and or lower back your technique will be poor. It's not a one size fits all fix however I do use the power band (make sure its secure and can support your weight) to take down if the strain so you can practise with assistance. Of course prior to that we'd have you work on whatever needed correcting... Ankle talus glides, calf release, patella mobs and or tracking work , glutes work, hip stretches or disassociation exercises, pelvic tilts...all specific to what was restricting you. Got a specific issue...it's most likely requiring a specific fix! #squats #helpme squat

CORE ROTATION — While anti-rotation exercises are extremely valuable for building strength and control, it’s important to eventually train into the movement to improve performance and confidence. — It is not uncommon for individuals with low back pain to become fearful of rotational movements. They’ve either been told that twisting is bad for the back or distinctly remember rotation contributing to their initial injury. — The lumbar spine is better suited for flexion and extension. It’s also situated between two regions, the hips and the thoracic spine, that do well with rotation. However, that does not mean that it’s not meant to rotate at all. Rather than completely avoiding rotation, you’re likely better off gradually exposing yourself to it to create strength, comfort, and confidence. — Most athletes would also benefit from rotational exercises as part of a well-rounded program. These exercises might serve as a bridge or transition to higher level movements that place a greater emphasis on power such as medball tosses. — Have you tried these? Which is your favorite?

As I scheduled out my healing plan from this past mild concussion, I made sure to get myself back into the gym a week later training my brain with some balance work. Oh I love pistols! Grateful I can still kinda do them. As I contemplated balance training, my mind started to think about how I used to strive for balance in my life. A balance between working out, eating heathy, work and a social life. Is this actually a thing?! I thought. I strived so hard with no success. The more I focused on one area the more out of balance the rest became. What came up for me is that I was striving for some kind of perfection that could never happen. I see a balanced life is not actually possible. We are always riding the waves of what experiences life brings us. And with these waves, something always has to give temporarily. As I dove deeper I discovered what I was actually searching for... Internal balance. Alchemy. A balance between my feminine and masculine energies. I see the life journey as layers of an onion... we find a balance internally and then we attract new experiences to crack us more open. We dive deeper into the onion discovering another imbalance. We shift, heal, balance and expand waiting for the next layer to be cracked open. I love doing this work. I love guiding people to crack themselves open to get to the juiciness of who they are at their core!

A few weeks ago I spoke with someone who was having hip pain any time he squatted over 135. He mentioned that he went to a PT who told him he was suffering from weak glutes and was actively working on strengthening them. I asked him if he could still deadlift and he said he was able to still hit a max of 315 without any pain at all. . . Does someone who can deadlift 315 have weak glutes? Will doing clamshells and glute bridges strengthen the glutes more than deadlifting 315? Answer: Probably Not The diagnosis of “weak or inhibited glutes” is given to a lot of people with back and hip pain. The thing is, if you can actively stand from sitting, walk, jump, etc, your glutes are contracting as they should. If you can pick a kettlebell off the ground that’s heavier than what you would encounter in your every day life, you glutes probably aren’t weak relative their every day demands. I’m not saying there is NO WAY those with weak glutes relative to the demands they put on them or those who don’t have the control or skill you use them optimally according to those demands won’t have pain. We just need to be careful with what we tell our clients/patients and shouldn’t be quick to jump to conclusions.
