Lower limb nerve glides: flossing and flow. This exercise is a great combination of a hamstring stretch and a nerve glide, specifically performed to desensitize the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve originates from the spinal cord through several nerve roots in the lumbar spine, then comes out through your buttock and all the way down the back of the leg. Because of its long pathway you can floss this nerve with the pivot point at either the ankle knee or hip, as demonstrated in these videos. The first 3 videos show tensioning of the nerve and the last 3 show flossing, whereby you flex the neck when you release the tension on the nerve at the other end, this is gentler than tensioning. It creates a small movement of the nerve like when you floss your teeth, all the way down the spinal cord to the foot.
