How could we have missed one of our Pilates favourites!... Day 18 we have SHOULDER BRIDGE 🙌🏼 This lovely restorative move comes after The Bicycle in Joesph Pilates original 34 sequence. To perform the Shoulder Bridge, position yourself on your mat with your back flat and knees bent (knees hip distance apart). Gently tilt your pelvis and start to slowly peel each vertebrae off the mat in turn, aiming for a straight line down the body from shoulders to knees (watch out for over arching that back or letting the hips sag). With your next exhale reverse the movement steadily returning your back to the mat and repeat 💜 #MarchMatness #PilatesUK #PilatesLounge #ShoulderBridge

Keep your focus up, do not turn your head side to side. Catching up on my #marchmatness2019 again!🥳 Day 17 brought us the Shoulder Bridge. This exercise activates and strengthens the posterior hip muscles while also promoting working in neutral pelvis and articulation of the spine. 🔥March MATness: Day 17🔥 . . #shoulderbridge focuses on the abs and hamstrings to achieve strength along the back line, pelvic lumbar stability and hip flexor control/strength. This can be challenging...again🙄 due to sedentary lifestyles that leave our hips tight and weak. ➡️Modify/Prep for the full version by keeping the knee bent (they more we move the limbs away from center, the more challenging to stabilize). ➡️if needed, use a yoga block to support the pelvis when the leg is extended. A foam roller will also do the trick, but the yoga block is versatile, with 3 different height options. Use a lower height and try to hover above the block as you build. If you start to feel the block; you know you’ve lost the height of the hips! ➡️Shoulder bridge starting to feel like a cake walk? #marchmatness2019 Day 19 #jackknife So today I try (and wasn't looking forward too) demonstration of jackknife - it requires all the elements of the #pilates method you would expect - if you are struggling with the #pilatesclassico classic version try these variations ⭐️ caddalac or classic mat with pole overhead would allow you to hold on as shown on bench - helps with lift element to get your body used to the challenge - give it a go! ⭐️Also try with overball/softball under pelvis to add various height to start and finish from - all good prep! (Not shown) ⭐️Also I try on the bench using one arm overhead other by side - not ideal but does mean variations strengthen obliques ⭐️the time-lapse show the beautiful transitions demonstrated by advanced class from, last few days of #marchmatness to Jackknife so it makes complete sence as to why it has natural flow from classic #shoulderbridge to complement and prep #muscles to use in jackknife Hope you enjoyed this fun instalment complete with Amber (my beagle) stopping play! Check out our IG story, Meet Joe! •••••••••••••••••••••••••• Muscle Focus: Hamstrings, Glutes, Abs •••••••••••••••••••••••••• History: Often done with a single leg variation, Joseph Pilates did more of a hip dip with the leg that was lowering – today, it’s typically done with the hips staying still and minimizing the leg extension. •••••••••••••••••••••••••• How-To: Feet are hip distance apart, lift the spine into a bridge. Extend the right leg up towards the ceiling while still keeping both hips lifted. Point the right foot, lower it down, but only so far that the right hip doesn’t dip down. Flex the foot to bring the leg back up. Try 10x on each side. •••••••••••••••••••••••••• Modification: Just try a regular bridge without the leg lift. #shoulderbridge #marchmatness
