Great daily mobility exercise to help create more extension in the thoracic spine, be sure to avoid rolling into the low back. Second exercise is an active thoracic extension wall press. Check out and see what he had to say about working with Michael at ESPTP: . “Over the last 4 years, I've dealt with a myriad of ailments/injuries that have kept me sidelined from running. With the majority of these issues, I found the healing process to be slower than initially thought, and I also seemed to have no idea on how to prevent other issues from popping up in the future. . About 8 weeks before this year's Boston Marathon, I began developing knee pain during my training runs. I tried everything from ice, anti-inflammatory drugs, exercises from past PTs, even just resting. Unfortunately, the knee did not respond to anything. Race day approached, and I was almost convinced I wouldn't be going to the start line. . A running buddy of mine mentioned going to see Mike. Immediately I could see the passion and expertise that Mike possesses. As a competitive runner himself, he understands the goals you're trying to achieve, and the best course of action to reach them. We talked a lot about inadequacies in other areas of the body, and the maintenance work required to remain injury free moving forward. After just 3 active sessions with Mike geared towards addressing these issues, I was back to running pain free, and had no issues during the marathon I thought I wasn't going to be able to start. Highly recommend this podcast for anyone who has tendon pain! (think Achilles, patellar, rotator cuff, tennis elbow, gluteal, hamstring) ⠀⠀ . Tendons need to be robust and resilient to cope with exercise and activity. Overloading a tendon beyond its capacity and tolerance will usually end up becoming a problem (ie painful!🙈) . ⠀⠀ Ironically, exercise can be a powerful treatment tool for tendon pain! När han som naprapat screenade oss elever på skidgymnasiet och tex på mig hittade ett valgiserande höger knä. Kanske kastade jag med luggen och blåste en tuggummi-bubbla men jag blev ohyggligt nyfiken på rörelse-analyser och gjorde mina tilldelade utfalls-steg. Tills jag glömde av dem. Och drog mitt ACL. Intresset brann till för rörelser och idrottsmedicin. Äran att sedan i många år ha HC som mentor i längdlandslaget. Jag frågade om de perfekta nervtesterna. HC svarade tryggt att bemötande var viktigast. Han hade rätt. Folket som åkte runt om oss i skidspåren hade dock lite fel när de hejade på mig och Wassberg. Att jag jobbat med längd sen -96 känns helt galet, åkarna idag är ju födda då 😅 Jag minns hur han 10-15 år senare fick mig att tacka ja till att jobba på Nationellt VintersportCentrum. Och jag kommer minnas det här mötet förra veckan i Ullådalen när han med öppna frågor fick mig att tänka några nya tankar. Som alltid. Så fungerar en coach. Och han kommer få oss alla att tänka nytt många gånger om. Stagnera är inte grejen för denne respekterade forskare världen över..Tack HC. Varför inte tacka folk medans de är aktiva och lååååångt ifrån pension, istället för med guldklocka vid 80? Vem har påverkat ditt yrkesliv starkt? Historically, fear was a human mechanism to alert us when danger was around the corner. It was the way humans survived and helped us, wellll, basically not get eaten or killed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fear was, and still is, very important in our lives for survival purposes. However, that’s just it! We need it to SURVIVE. And since we don’t have wild animals or dinosaurs ready to eat us at every waking moment, fear is not as necessary as it used to be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So why do we continue to be fearful of certain decisions or aspects of our lives? Why are people fearful to change their habits? Why are people fearful of asking someone on a date? Why are people fearful of moving across the country to pursue their dreams? Why are we fearful of taking personal or professional risks? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There’s a difference between being fearful for the sake of survival and being fearful because we are afraid of FAILURE. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We have to think about WHY we are fearful. It’s ok to take some risks and chances in life, and ignore that fear we have inside. The fear that prevents you from becoming a better YOU, probably is the fear that isn’t necessary in your life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Will jumping off this cliff without any safety harnesses risk my survival, thus striking fear in my mind? Definitely. Will joining my boot camp this summer increase fear for you? Maybe. Will it risk your survival? Definitely NOT😉 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So the next time you’re feeling fear, think about WHY you feel fearful and ask yourself, will this risk my survival? I know these examples are dramatic, but my point is to change your perspective or at least make you think and question your thoughts a little more than usual... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ PS this is one of my favorite places to hike in WI

Steroid (cortisone) Injections for Knee Arthritis • Osteoarthritis is the leading cause of disability in adults and affects over 50 million people in the US. The knee is the most common source of disabling pain caused by arthritis. • One of the hottest topics of discussion with patients is the use of steroid (cortisone) injections.People always want to know how they work? Is it safe? What are the side effects? • Pain relief from steroid injection is thought to work by reducing the inflammation in the knee. A common recommendation by providers for people with moderate to severe arthritis is that injections can be performed 3-4 times per year (if they are successful @ reducing pain). Keep in mind, regular steroid injections are NOT recommended for people with healthy, normal cartilage. This is because there are some laboratory studies that have shown a possible adverse affect on cartilage. • Several studies have shown that steroid Injections have been successful at reducing pain in the short term. The exact duration of pain relief remains UNKNOWN. Several studies showed a definite improvement at 1 week, but there is no evidence that these injections are demonstrating benefit past 6 months. Additionally, there is evidence that in obese patients the injections are less effective. The idea is that the injection calms the inflammation allowing the patient to work with PT and work on activity modification to avoid future flare ups. • Steroids are not recommended in people with the following conditions: allergies to corticosteroids an active infection difficulty clotting Compromised skin Fractures Presence of knee implants Labile diabetes or if you are having a knee replacement within 3 months (higher risk of post op infection) • Some Adverse effects include : Skin pigmentation changes Fat or skin atrophy Residual injection site pain Facial flushing Increase in blood sugar Infection (studies range from 1/7000 -1/50000) • 👉Tag someone that may find this info useful! 👇Leave comments below. #steroids #injections #education #knowledge #knee #arthritis #sportsmedicine #ortho #surgery
