Yes you’re right! The disc on your spine can heal. Don’t you not know about this? . How many of YOU here ever been told by your doctors or orthopedic surgeon that you have a slipped disc or bulging disc? . Or degenerative disc, herniated disc, etc.. . How do you feel after finding out such news? . I bet for most of you out there, some anxiety would have started to kick in a little bit, yes? . Some of you would even start to overthink of the WORST case scenario especially now that you’re aging.. . You’re afraid if this “slipped disc” was to continue… “is it going to cause me some sort of permanent disability?” . I know what you’re thinking.. people come to us all the time to express this.. and I can see from their face, they’re worried. . Who wouldn’t? It’s not pleasant isn’t it to be told you have something in your body system that “changed internally” . And then comes the doctor who also often make matter worse, by telling you “Ey, you should be careful with your movement, don’t carry heavy stuff, don’t bend your back, all these precautious word.” . With advice like that, I’m not surprised at all that gradually, over time.. you adapt the fear of moving. . Thinking that if your back pain becomes WORSE, it means your spine is “moving out of alignment, or that the disc is slipped out even further” 💥 . Want to know what? . THAT’S NONSENSE. . “And that surgery is the only way to resolves” . NONSENSE TOO . MRI studies on people WITHOUT back pain have revealed that over 30% of 20 year olds (yes young adults!!!) and over 80% of 80 year olds have bulging discs, with NO SYMPTOMS of back pain! . Meaning your freaking pain is NOT AT ALL co-related with the “Abnormalities on imaging of YOUR SPINE” . So STOP worrying! And start getting educated more than your freaking doctors who rarely offer no positive support to move you forward. . 66% of disc herniations can actually demonstrate healing w conservative treatment. So go find someone today.. who encourage you to MOVE with progressive loading, if you want your disc to HEAL. NOT rest! 🚫 . Excessive Rest or Inactivity in this case is recipe for disaster. 💣 . 🤔 Do you have pain at the front of your shoulder? Pain at your bicep or when you perform bicep 💪 curls? Then this may help out! __ 📌 A common cause of pain in there is bicep tenditis or tendinosis. Now, there are a -lot- of other potential causes of pain 🤕 in that area including rotator cuff pathology and referral from the neck. __ 🤷🏼‍♂️ IMO this condition is over diagnosed whether by your local know-it-all gym bro (almost always idiot - ignore 🤦‍♂️ them) to even certain healthcare providers with limited musculoskeletal knowledge - so consult with your local PT👨‍⚕️ or Ortho to be sure this is what’s going on __ 🔁 Remember pain for the first time & recent spike ⬆️ in training load/volume likely means tendinitis & will go away by scaling back on load/volume for a bit. Pain ongoing for awhile is likely tendinosis & treatment is progressive 💪 loading of the tendon within a tolerable level __ 🧐 How? The primary treatment is loading of the biceps. This is easily done and overloaded through eccentric biceps curls __ 📌 In addition, I believe it is often worthwhile to incorporate reverse & hammer curls. The reason being the body has many muscles that perform similar 👍actions. So strengthening muscles like the brachioradialis & brachialis (among others) that perform some actions of the biceps means they can take more of that load off the irritated 🤬 biceps that can’t tolerate it __ 📌 Also included is scapular retractions. A complaint patients with this condition often have is pain with rowing type motions (pulling on a dog leash 🐶 or literal barbell rows.) They also tend to be very bicep dominant in how they perform the movement. Teaching how to perform the movement utilizing the scapular retractors & carrying that over to the aggravating 😡 activity means less load on that biceps & typically less 💆‍♂️ pain __ 👫 Have a friend who needs this? {EDUCATION} One of our main priorities at BSP is to educate. We want to educate our athletes on all things movement, strength, power, nutrition, rest, and recovery. We want to help everyone on their journey to their goals no matter whether those goals are athletic or aesthetic in nature. We also work to educate our interns and our coaches. As a part of the BSP internship process each week we cover topics specific to our program and training. It is not uncommon to walk through our facility and see diagrams, programs, and terminology drawn on the dry erase boards. Each and everyday is a learning opportunity for everyone who walks through our doors. The #bspfamily is forever learning!

The benefits of appropriate exercise have been recognized by Osteopathy for over 120 years. As written by Charles Hazzard D.O. in Principles of Osteopathy, 1899, “If your patient has a curvature in the lower thoracic region, anywhere below the shoulders, he can hang upon a horizontal bar by the arms. It is a good exercise for any one. We are always shorter in the evening than when we get up in the morning. It is good practice, this and other appropriate exercise, to strengthen the general health and strengthen the muscles of the back. This, of course, is not Osteopathic practice, but it is exercise which is useful in aiding you in your treatment. “ The dead-hang (described above) using rings allows the shoulder joint (glenohumeral articulation) to glide into a centrated position much easier than a fixed pull-up bar. Joint centration, described by Dr. Pavel Kolar, is the ideal position of the joints during movement.
