👉🏻 ...many many problems from the health and performance standpoint... 👇🏻 . 📌 If you have anterior pelvic tilt (APT) or weak glutes and abs (core in general), you can suffer from: Postural issues up and down the chain (chain reaction: kyphosis, forward head, hip/knee/feet imbalances...), which can produce pain somewhere; Lower back pain (greater spinal pressure); Front hip discomfort while squatting and similar (earlier bone-to-bone contact); Hip mobility issues (core don’t control the spine the best - so some another “hip” muscles need to help which makes hips tight); “Tight” hams (hams are actually longer than it should because of the APT - which produces tight feeling, hams actually need strengthening in order to “prevent” injuries and improve health, functionality and performance); Improper hip mechanics (it’s sometimes recommended to have a slight APT though, that makes many sprinters and athletes fast and explosive - a bit better hip ROM and propulsion forces, but if lower back compensates lacking full hip extension - then risk of injury is higher; also - “weak” glutes could overwork hams and(or) adductor magnus so some overuse injuries could occur when it comes to these muscles; issues with full hip flexion and strength as well); Poor spinal stabilization (when the pelvis is in a more neutral position and the rib cage “faced down”, breathing mechanics is better and functional core strength as well). Low Bar vs High Bar Back Squats - which is better? Low Bar places the barbell just below the spine of the scapula and the High bar position sits a top the upper trapezius. The low bar squat requires that you have a more horizontal back angle where as the high bar is more vertical. The horizontal positioning at the bottom places a greater stress on the back, which is what some would consider a shear force although there is NEVER any shearing at the spine (only resistance of flexion or extension) because it’s a dynamic force coming from 2 opposite directions. This causes the spinal erectors to work harder and also produces a great stretch at the hamstring (more open knee angle) which allows for better use of the hamstrings, glutes and low back. In the high bar squat, the back angle is more vertical which causes a more compressive force on the spine. Therefore, the spinal erectors do not have to work AS hard. There is also more flexion at the knee (more closed knee angle) which reduces the stretch on the hamstrings, and does not utilize those posterior muscle groups as well. In theory, the Low bar back squat trumps the high bar back squat. The one factor that would force an individual to use the high bar variation is comfort.
