Talking this morning about the benefits of stretching and flexibility. Flexible joints require less energy to move through a greater range of motion. This decreases risk of injury and increases physical performance. It also helps increase blood and nutrients to tissues. So make sure stretching is part of your routine. To me it's a daily thing, and I Am lucky enough to work in a gym with a studio where I can just go in and stretch in between appointments, but at home all you need is the floor or a door frame. This can often times cause tightness and pain like band that goes across the low back ↔️ - If you fit into this category you mightttt wanna try these out 🔥🔥🔥 - 👉🏻 child’s pose position: focus on your breathe and control of the diaphram. Make sure your belly is the primary mover during your breaths. Extend the hands forward and elongate your spine 🧘🏻‍♀️ - 👉🏻 child’s pose with lateral reach: goal here is to stretch the ever so pesky QL muscle. If you are leaning left you should feel a pull in the right low back. And vise versa. If it’s pinching to the side you are leaning STOP 🛑 - 👉🏻 segmental roll out: segmental movements should focus on each individual spinal level as you literally roll out the spine. Adam has officially been at The Underground for a little over a year now. Adam came to us looking for an individualized program to help him train around an ankle injury he had been dealing with for quite sometime. He had been limited on the movements that he could perform and was eager on being able to return to training these movements pain and injury free. 100 workouts later and he hit is goal of being able to return to performing a lot of the movements he wasn’t able to previously perform, injury and pain free. He attends both our semi-private training and a regular and has added one day of The Program (large group training) to help with him his overall conditioning. This is 100, Adam! Conditioning Wednesday’s. Grabbed a bell and moved for an hour, played with a lot of patterns, and had a good time. I’ve mentioned this before, but I generally keep a fairly structured strength training program BUT really enjoy incorporating novelty and variability into my conditioning days, this keeps things interesting through the monotony of otherwise consistent programming. I performed each circuit for max rounds in 20 minutes, then performed the tempo runs for 3 sets of 1-5 ladders with 15 seconds between runs and 2 minutes between rounds. The goal of these days is aerobic development, I try to maintain around a 120 HR and while not overtaxing my CNS.

Trunk/Core Rotational Strength 💪🏼 . This 1/2 Kneeling Trunk Rotational exercise is an excellent exercise to challenge your external/internal obliques while improving your trunk control 🗣 To perform this exercise, get into a 1/2 kneeling position with your hands wrapped around a cable attachment. Rotate the cable across your body while keeping your arms straight and slowly rotate back to the starting position. The slower you rotate back across your body the more muscle activation and motor control will be implemented to your core and trunk musculature 👌🏼 . Perform 3-4 sets of 8 repetitions on each side of your body to increase your trunk/core rotational strength 🙌🏼 . Tag someone that would benefit from this exercise and needs to work on their rotational strength 👌🏼

I was looking for a new gym to join and actually I was amazed by the rough look and by the exotic tools existing in a crossfit box, by the huge diversity of the workouts... I am a curious and enthusiastic creature so I said "I'm in". It was 4 years back, it was the first time I woke up at 05.00am to train in the morning. I am a morning person ever since. •• How has CrossFit affected your life / health? It gave me a strong discipline of watching and changing my sleeping and eating habits. I have been a vegetarian for 15 years, but never felt so deeply the impact of balancing properly macros in my daily diet. I started to obsess over proteins 🙂 and over having 5 meals per day . Also, after a decent 8 hrs sleep I feel like flying. Like this, woding in the morning can almost be charming 😅💪. •• What is your favorite Wod/ movement? I am strong in cardio and gymnastics movements, so I can handle burpees, wall balls and oxidative wods quite well. My beloved weighlifting movement is Clean and Jerk. My fav bodyweight wod is Cindy. •• What are you short term and / or long term goals ? I want to improve my technique in pull ups (kipping & butterfly chest to bar), grow my strict pull up movement capacity, steadier hand stands, increase my snatch and clean & jerk performances. I want to do all these while staying healthy and safe, loving and shiny, with no injuries 🙂. •• What keeps you motivated to train? The joy of living I have right now, the body and mental shape I have built over time, the desire to keep my immunity level up and the strenght and self confidence I have regained through CrossFit during the past years. •• Do you have any sports background before starting with CrossFit? I have been practicing a lot of aerobics and fitness, HIIT training, trail running, ballet, yoga, pilates and dancing. •• What do you do for fun outside of Smart Move? I’m starting Phase 1 of my Plyometric Training today. The goal is to teach my body how to absorb force by landing stable on the box. We must be able to absorb force first before we can produce force. Another added benefit is injury prevention because you are learning how to control your body and put your joints (ankles, knees, hips) in proper position when you land. Most ACL injuries happen in the landing position. I usually do this exercise after my mobility and dynamic warm up.
