Harvesting Okra: They grow fast, so catch it when it’s tender, right around 3”. If it’s 5” or more it gets pretty tough.

An older gentleman (and regular customer of mine) brought in some sprouting monstera seeds the other day following on from a long conversation about monstera fruit.🌽 He said he'd tried it somewhere abroad and couldn't believe how delicious it was. So he brought back the seeds thinking they probably wouldn't germinate, but they did! . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He brought 4 germinated seeds in for me to grow and look after, so I potted them up and gave one to my sister, left one in the shop and took two home to keep an eye on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Two or three days on and monstera #1 is unfurling it's first leaf! It's quite warm here at the moment so I'm trying to keep them well hydrated and out of any direct sun. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I've never actually tried to grow a houseplant from seed before (only vegetables and herbs and things like that) so it's safe to say I'm beyomd excited to see how they get on 😁🌱 . I'll keep you all in the loop, and will try to get sprout updates out every #monsteramonday 🍀 #muddymaddie #houseplants #monstera #seedlings

After all the moisture received in my area (Colorado), the weeds are growing well. . Obviously, life would be much easier if the weeds weren’t there to start with. When it comes to organically controlling weeds, proactive strategies will save you far more time & labor than reacting to the weeds once they are present & established. Proactive approaches to weed management include mulching, crop rotations, or cover cropping. . If you only have a few of the pesky plants, using a spade to dig out the whole root can be a reasonable approach, especially if the ground is relatively soft. Getting the plants out before they go to seed helps prevent new ones from establishing too. Hand pulling is generally not effective on plants with taproots since they tend to break off leaving the roots safely underground ready to re-grow. . Occultation is a less known method which helps germinate & kill weeds early in the season. By anchoring heavy tarps (UV-stabilized silage tarps work well) or dark landscape fabric over land you wish to use, you can increase soil temperature earlier in spring & cause seeds to germinate earlier. When the plants under the tarp sprout, they have no sunlight & die off. After 3-4 weeks the weeds should have grown & died, leaving behind soil ready for planting. . Flame weeding is another method that can kill weeds from a seed bed after they have germinated. Flame weeding works by burning young plants when their root systems may not be established enough to allow them to recover. . Herbicides can also be a choice in organic agriculture (although are often less effective on established weeds with taproots). In order for a herbicide to be approved for organic use, the active ingredients need to be approved for use by the National Organic Program (NOP). . -Werbung da Verlinkung/unbezahlt/selbst gekauft #flower #petunia #petunien #balcony #urbangardening #gardening #blumen #balkonblumen #grünerdaumen #schatten #purpleflower #spring #pflanzenmuddi #summer #growing #watchingitgrow #nature #photography #makro #hobbyphotographer #photoart #naturephotography #floral #flowerphoto #gardenphoto #picoftheday #dailyinsta #dortmund #hörde #ruhrgebiet

Spring-planted bulbs, corms and roots. As you are thinking about your summer flower garden, don’t forget to include spring-planted bulbs, corms and roots. Some examples include gladiolus, dahlias, canna, lilies and tuberous begonias. . A greater selection of bulbs, corms and roots is available in early rather than late spring. Purchasing bulbs, corms and roots from large bins allows you to mix-and-match plants. When buying plant material from bins, select only the largest and firmest specimens with no odor suggesting rot. The general idea is the larger the bulb, the better the flower. . Article: Donna Duffy .
