Our small and young deer is not so small and young as we thought. She is a loving and caring mom 😻 spotted the young one three days ago and now caught them together, strolling through the woods. #wildlife #animal #deer #cup #deercup #mamadeer #animallove #loveforanimals #backyard

The impala (native to eastern and southern Africa) can jump as high as 3 meters and as long as 10 meters when trying to escape from predators. Hard to imagine that this newborn impala will ever be able to accomplish such feats. 🌲 🦇 ✨🦇 🌳 🦇 🌙🦇 🌳⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Deciding on promo images for work yet to be done is, well, challenging to say the least. I dwelled on what species to highlight, what words to use. This will be on museum banners, the face of an exhibition yet to manifest. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ I thought about my site visit and went through my notes. A sharp contrast, a duality emerged. The first, a visual I encountered from my car just as I entered town: a giant, roadside billboard advertising bat removal services. A gentler way of saying “extermination” 💔 The second, a conversation at a picnic table with Doug Wentzel, Naturalist & Program Director for @shaverscreek Environmental Center: While speaking of lost species, using his own life as a measure, recalled how many bats he would see decades ago, lamenting the current, less bat-full landscape, and his hope for recovery. ❤️ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ I most love the species that waver between human wonder and human malign. Bats live in this conceptual realm. I hope my work can tip the scales a bit further toward the favor of wild lives. One can dream...⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ [Image: “Small-Footed Bat no. 1” | Sequential photographs of text-based, pre-colonial wildlife encounter. Red letters on an LED Versa moving message board.]

bendessen. A master of disguise and without doubt my favourite species of Phasmid

A master of disguise and without doubt my favourite species of Phasmid. The Australian Leaf Insect is a stunning invertebrate known only from a few individuals in a limited range of Far North Queensland. Very lucky to be able to work with these guys! #phasmid #australianleafinsect #phyllium #phylliummonteithi #leafinsect #insect #invertebrate #wildlife #aussiewildlife @insecthaus_adi
