First of all, what is mindfulness? Mindfulness is the act of being in the moment and paying attention to what is around you. You also might be wondering, what’s the difference between mindfulness and meditation? Mindfulness IS meditation. Next, why should you practice mindfulness? Life is hard. Work is stressful. More and more people are living in what many call anxiety-culture, where it’s typical to always be stressed and anxious. Many have the bad habit of living in the past or the future, but very rarely in the present. We always worry about things that cannot be changed or prevented. This is where mindfulness comes in. Mindfulness brings us back to the present, where we can focus on living in the moment and understand ourselves more. So how do you practice mindfulness? There are thousands of ways to be mindful. You can focus on your breathing; you can tune into your body and listen; you can even go on a mindful walk where you pay attention to all of your surroundings. 🍰🙃🤹🏼‍♀️ Day 1️⃣8️⃣ of #PinchaParty with @cyogalife ➡️ alternative pose #RevolvedHeadtoKnee / #ParivrttaJanuSirsasana 🤹🏼‍♀️🙃🍰 Since Carmen’s pose today is quite intense (not a surprise!)—this pose will act as a good warm up or as a stand alone alternate to stretch your hamstrings, side body, and shoulders! . . Sit with your left leg extended out long and place your right foot inside your left leg, right knee bent. As you breathe in, lengthen your ribcage up away from your hips, and as you exhale, put your left forearm down inside your left leg (if putting the forearm down causes you to hunch or crunch your spine, place the left hand only down instead). Stretch your right arm up overhead, as though you were reaching for your left foot (but don’t make this your main focus!). Open through your chest, finding a gentle twist so that your shoulders are stacked more vertically—using the left arm inside the left leg can help you deepen your way into this. While you’re making this space, you might be able to continue passing your left tricep or maybe even shoulder more and more over your leg, allowing more room to pass your head and chest through. As you revolve your chest and keep reaching through your right arm, continue to anchor yourself through your right hip. Stay active through your left leg, driving your heel out for more stretch in the hamstring as you’re ready. If you make it to a place where your arm is fairly parallel to the ground, try reaching for your toes or the outside edge of your foot. If it causes you to miss out on the opening in your upper back, skip it—enjoy the space instead! You may eventually make it to the actual “head to knee” zone, where you can let your head rest on your leg, but again, enjoy the journey no matter where you end up today. Use the strength of your side body and core to bring yourself back up on an inhale, and give it a go on the other side! . .
