I usually climb out of bed and enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea and sink into a book and lose myself in the thoughts of someone else before stepping into my own and starting my day.

🌼Tips for flying pigeon (flying figure 4). This video shows you how to get into Eka Pada Galavasana (flying pigeon) in two ways- from standing in tree pose and from sitting. Thanks to @cfd_sq2 for the post inspiration!❤🌻 . KEY POINTS 1. If coming in from tree pose, place ankle just above knee in your tree. This may be lower than you normally have it. 2. You may need to lean forward and fall into your hands to reach the ground. Your hands will catch you!!! 3. The hook of the foot around the arm really makes a difference in helping you get into the pose 4. Shift weight more forward and get hips up higher to make it easier to lift your leg 5. If you have tight hips, still continue to do as much of the pose as you can do. It will help you open your hips. 6. 🌼Want to try handstanding? Here are two drills to help you get started! They will help you with the two essentials for standing on your hands: a controlled entry and balance.🌻 . KEY POINTS 1. A major block for a lot of people with handstands is fear. The first drill will help you overcome that. Don't focus on how high you get into the air, but rather keeping straight legs and how it feels to shift weight into your hands. The type of control you learn with this drill will make it so you will be able to control your falls as well. Give it a shot! 2. Second drill has you alternating taking your legs off the wall. This teaches your body how to balance. Try to lengthen the amount of time it takes you to switch legs. 3. Day 17 of #AYearofYoga2019 . . . . Slide 2 for comparison to last year. Well biggest difference is I got it on my first try this year. Only did a couple times and they came out similar. Definitely room for improvement. Honestly I haven’t been practicing the last two days, just doing a little for my challenges. After my allergic reaction which I’m still dealing with and having to work late into the nights almost every night this week, I just decided it would be wearing myself too thin to keep up a full practice. Sometimes you need to push yourself through, but when you’re sick and your body is already under stress, sometimes you just need more rest. So I’m happy with my couple of attempts today. . . That in itself was like a knit twisting in my side gut and the more I try to straighten my legs, the more pressure in my gut. Almost like a meathook but a least gravity does all the work.😂 I am humbled how much I still have to work on.😓 #yogachallenge #crosstraining #circustraining #yoganewbie #yogatips #yogamotivation Carmen's take: As tough as this twist can be, I highly recommend you include it in your daily practice because it loosens up the spine/shoulders like few others do. Both your backbends and forward folds will benefit from it and you’ll gain more degrees of rotation... sounds great, doesn’t it? We’ve done it before in other challenges but let’s study once more how to approach and get into it: from a Side Chair, wrap lower arm around both legs, behind the hamstrings, then reach upper one behind the the back to find the hips or butt cheek. When twisting to the left, for instance, fingers will find themselves on the right hamstrings or outer thigh/hip area. If you can’t bind (very normal, it’s a difficult twist), use a strap, put it around the top part of the hips, like a loose belt and, after twisting, find it with both arms. Keep crawling fingers closer until you can’t anymore, then breathe there. Lengthen out through the crown of the head, extending the spine further. Also, see if you can press heels into the ground to straighten the legs a bit (or completely!). If the bind happens relatively easy, go for the wrist of the back arm and take a few, long breaths, all the way into the stomach and belly. Do both sides and notice their differences. Which side is easier for you to twist to? I go better to my left side and I’m right handed... your turn to give it a try!! Save this pic for the future and keep going...
