Tutorial Tuesday, tag your tight hip yoga buddies! . I want to share something important before going on. Instead of looking at poses as something to work towards and achieve, view them as something that just happens through discipline and regular practice. You unroll your mat everyday move, do stuff that feels good, and challenge yourself in safe fun ways and as a result things happen. Making a pose your objective can be detrimental to your body and also a fast way to become frustrated and stagnant in your practice. Important note before getting into a pose that requires mindfulness and attention as you practice it! . To open your body for Lotus you want to get into your groin and internal rotation of the hips. Lateral lunges and butterfly will open your groin. Pigeon and hugging your for and/or shin opens the internal rotation of your hips. Practice these regularly to get all loosey goosey in your hips. Before moving into Lotus make sure your hips are super warm and open! It would be smart to repeat this sequence 3 or 4 times before ever coming into it. When you do, be sure it’s slow and mindful! Us yogis train hard to be the best person we can be at every moment/ to show up in the world the best we can. In order to not live in autopilot and just react. But so we can choose to act. By continuous practice we train the mind and the body and we create space. Space in our bodies, space within our minds and within our thoughts. This way we can notice our reactions, we can stop before we act and say; I’m not going to punch this person in the face. I’m not going to scream at them, I’m not going to be angry. I’m not going to hurt them. I’m simply going to feel, observe and choose to transform energy. To choose kind. To choose quiet. To not judge. To be compassionate. To do less. To waste less. I go through periods in life where all I want is to soak up new ideas and new perspectives from other people in attempts to understand myself, culture, science (all types), spirituality, etc more. One of my favorite things to do is read a book that changes my perspective on something significant in my life. I used to be SO afraid of that... that somehow if I heard the wrong idea it would alter my current beliefs. If I had a piece of advice for people, it would be.. that no matter what your current state of belief is, don’t be afraid to explore. Don’t be so sure about one way if thinking that you’re afraid to even hear about another. Don’t be so convinced you know the truth about life, because there is so much unknown in this universe we live in, and so much to be taken from hearing all sides and all ideas. I’m currently reading a book called “Sapiens” by Yuval Noah Harari, and it’s absolutely amazing how much it’s challenging my thought process and opening up my mind to new ways of thinking about our humanity. It’s quite beautiful, really! I’d love any other recommendations for books that have done the same for you! • Wearing @aloyoga

Almost done with this week and I’m looking forward to spending some time in my garden this weekend! I need to start expanding my space and getting everything ready to start planting in spring. One of my goals this year is to start composting. I hate seeing so much food waste in our garbage and I always feel so guilty that I have the space and yard to keep compost but just haven’t initiated it yet. On perfection. I love you - I hate you. This pose is far from being perfect or looking fancy (and thats ok) when I was younger I was striving for perfection, I was raised believing anything I do had to be perfect. Which also meant that I needed so much more time for homeworks, presentation and the likes, because I wanted it to be perfect, when I handed it in. But when are things ever perfect?! Through yoga and even more so meditation (and maybe also a little through getting older) I learned that most likely things will never be perfect, there will always be something you can do bigger or better or differen or what. And thats ok! A pose is perfect for me if it makes me feel good, a podcast episode is perfect when we laughed a lot and good to know some amazing person, a friendship is perfect when we can different views on things and then hug it out. So, I gues what I am trying to say is, it‘s not about what everybody else thinks or says, it‘s about what it feels like for me. Kicking up to a handstand 🙌🙌Ever since my neck and back injuries started causing incredible pain, I’ve been so scared of getting up into a handstand again, scared I’ll fall, scared I’ll make my injuries worse, scared I won’t be strong enough, but my teacher training has taught me valuable lessons and helped me overcome some of my fears as well as strengthen me enough to be able to do this again in safer ways. Let’s talk props and modifications! 😊 Props & modifications are a great way to continue to develop your practice. They allow students the chance to find the pose, or sequence, easier than they would if they were learning it for the first time, injured, or fatigued. Modifications, with or without the use of props, are useful during these times. Especially during recovery, pregnancy, etc. @patrickbeach shows this by using multiple blocks to help ease into this transition! What’s your favorite prop to use? 🦋 #coppermoonyoga #onestudioforall ————————————————————— #Repost @patrickbeach with @get_repost ・・・ 2019 goal :: getting this cleanly from the floor! i am usually not one for goals based on my physicality (outside of working on becoming more healthy) but this has caught my attention for one reason that actually has nothing to do with my practice, consistency. in most parts of my life i am a wildly inconsistent person. constantly traveling, spending time with different friends, exploring new places, sleeping in different beds, eating at different restaurants, and the list goes on, in fact the only part of my current life that is every day (outside of breathing) is my constant communication with carling :) and my awakening yoga practice. i want to challenge myself to be steady in another discipline that is focussed in one direction, walking one path instead of many. the more i explore movement the more areas i want to play in, and i will continue to do that as well, but this movement in particular combines one of my strengths in movement patterning, press handstands, with something that i can improve upon, length through the back chain of my body. although it very satisfying to work on things you are already good at i am constantly appreciating the ability to embrace a challenge, it won’t always be easy but the only way to it is through it. even when the work is tough somebody has gotta do it! expect regular updates on this over the coming months, do you have any goals for this year? #yogapractice #yogaflow #yogavideo #handstand #handstands

It just came up on my memory feed 🥰⁣ ⁣ It is crazy how much I cannot remember, especially details and struggles. ⁣ I think I was struggling with 1.5 year-old’s early start of terrible-two. But all details are blur 🤔⁣ ⁣ That means all the things that make me worry now will probably be blur and something I will forget about eventually. ⁣ ⁣ I do remember cute moments, the softness of his cheeks and his cute voice.
